Why are you in interested in Richmond NOW?

I have been diving back into the world of feminism, especially since moving back home to VA, where it's not quite as easy to find friends and acquaintances who feel as strongly as you do. I just feel like I should do something beside sit on my couch and vent on my blog, you know?

What is the most pressing need you see in the local area as regards women's issues?

Oh, Virginia! Anything with reproductive rights, surely, but I also think that issues of affordable child care and equal pay are crazy important. I read a theory the other day that perhaps many of the service jobs (e.g., waitress, teacher, etc...) are paid so much lower BECAUSE they are often women. It broke my heart to realize this was probably true. I also think there's a lot of work to be done around LGBT rights, which to me fit strongly in with the feminist social justice movement, though I guess not everyone sees it that way.

I'm Audra. I'm an early childhood special education teacher, a student of yoga, a lover of books amongst far too many other things. And I very much want to meet other people dedicated to working towards a culture of genuine equality.
