Piano Meetup 1

Come and join us for our first meetup!

We'll start off with just getting acquainted with each other, discuss tastes in music, technical abilities, and discuss what everybody is interested in getting out of this group.

I would like to talk with the other members about the  structure of future meetings.  How much time do we want to have for members to just chit chat and mingle? Do we want to set some time to allow a member to do a very brief mini-lesson where a little trick-of-trade or some resource would be shared with the group?  Of course, we want to give everyone interested a chance to play the piano.

We will also need to discuss meeting places.  If anyone knows about a room with a piano, let me know.  Maybe you know of a church, school, studio or some other place that would either volunteer or rent out a place for our meetings.  If someone can volunteer their home, great.

I am planning on meeting once a month, for about an hour or two, but that is something that we can talk about during this first meeting.

I am still looking for a place to meet, but I should find something in time for our first meeting.  Having a piano would be great, although maybe not absolutely necessary for this very first meeting - so meeting a local coffee shop might be OK.  If you are interested in hosting, contact me directly.  If we meet in a member's home, I can set up the site so that the address is shown to members only, and put a limit on the group size.

A couple of updates on the upcoming meetup:

I will send a private email with the details of the location of our first meetup to the members who have rsvp'd.  We will meet from 2 to 3 pm, although we could extend the meeting.  The setting is a classroom with two pianos: one acoustic and one electronic (with velocity-sensitive keys).  The acoustic piano is a little bit out of tune, but the electronic piano is nice.

We'll spend approximately half the time for introductions and sharing ideas about future meeting times, future meeting venues, and future meeting formats.  The other half of the time will used for just playing the piano.

Come with your ideas and suggestions, and with the music you'd like to share.

As a final note, for this first meeting, I would like to avoid a situation where someone wants to attend but cannot just because the time or the place is not quite right.  Since this will be a small group, it might be possible to move things around a bit - let me know if that's the case.

I enjoyed our first meeting. We heard music from Schubert and from Martha Mier. Looking forward to the next meeting.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
