B.A.R.K. - Kennel Help

We will be working with other volunteers at the site.  The work is generally completed by 2:00 PM.

If you love dogs, then BARK needs you! BARK is a volunteer run organization that was formed for the express purpose of finding homes for unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals.

Our tasks will mainly revolve around BARK's Quality of Life program. We'll help clean out the kennels, walk the dogs and take care of anything else that's needed at the Ashland farm. Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves and some water.

If you have not volunteered with BARK before, please complete download the volunteer application/waiver online at http://www.barkva.org/NewsLetters/ApplicationWaiver.pdf or fill out the form when you arrive. We'll be working indoors and outdoors, so please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather that you don't mind getting dirty.

Do not Mapquest this location - use Google maps or the directions below.  The map on this Meetup page is correct.  It is about 35 minutes from downtown Richmond.

From 295 take Route 33 West (Staples Mill Rd.) toward Montpelier exit. You’ll pass the Tyson Chicken plant and eventually come to a light at the intersection of 623. You’ll pass an Exxon station, Stanley’s store and JoPa pools. Continue for .8 mile and turn right on Farrington Road. Go to the end (stop sign at Greenwood Church Road) and turn right. Just around the curve the driveway will be on the left - it is a bridge over a creek. Drive up past the house and park where other cars will be.  Walk up the gravel drive away from the house to the barns.  PLEASE DO NOT HAVE CONTACT THE DOGS AT THE HOUSE WITHIN THE FENCED AREA. They are Bob’s (the owner's) dogs - some are in training and others will not be adopted out.

Questions? If you have questions about this project please contact Claire Tetrick:
email: [masked] phone:[masked] (Please note that cell phone service is very spotty at the farm, so please call before 10:00 am on Saturday if you need to reach Claire!)

Sorry to be a flake but I've been under the weather this week. With the wet and cold tom I think I better stay home. I'm assuming a lot of the work is outdoors but either way I'd like to fully recoup. Have fun and I hope to come help out soon.

My friend would like to come but can't make it until 12:00, is that still worth it for you guys?

I would like to come out even though it is an hour drive for me. I am however, somewhat limited in bending and lifting. What all needs to be done? Would there still be things I could help with? Ideally I'd love to interact with the dogs.

Hi Debbie, we will be cleaning and walking dogs, so you could focus on walking some of the easier, smaller dogs if that works for you!

My back doesn't always limit me so I will hopefully be up for what ever needs to be done but thanks.

If you're new to BARK, please make sure you introduce yourself to the volunteers and ask for an orientation when you get there. Richard is the crew lead on Saturdays and can get you started!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
