Reedy Creek at Riverside Dr and Hillcrest
It's hard to believe but the end of summer is just around the corner. This summer was a great season for hiking as many of us spent numerous hours on the trails in the James River Park System. As things in the park settle down, the James River Advisory Council is holding a big clean up effort all along the James River on September 14th from 9:00AM-1:00PM. This event will include lunch and there's even a vegetarian choice.
To sign up, simply go to this site:http://www.jamesriveradvisorycouncil.com/events/cleanup/default.asp
After reading about the clean up, simply click on the "Register Now" button and fill in the form on the next page.
Put "Richmond Volunteers" in the organization field.
In the Cleanup Site field choose "City of Richmond-Bryan Park" option unless you want to help somewhere else.
Wear appropriate clothing. I suggest long pants and shirt sleeves, gloves and no opened toed shoes. If you have a grabber that you can use for this event then that could be a big help. Also consider that there is plenty of wildlife in our parks and this does include snakes and ticks. You should also be aware of things like poison ivy.
Please be sure to bring enough water with you just as you would on a hike!
Plan to meet early at the Reedy Creek location. If our numbers become an issue, we may just park offsite or go directly to our designated cleanup spot.
In the past I've been shocked by the amount of trash, especially glass, that's just left behind in our park. However, now's our chance to work together with other groups to make a difference.
Thanks in advance for helping to keep the James River clean and safe for all of us who play there!
