While the method varies throughout the hundreds of chapters around the world, Richmond Food Not Bombs takes remaindered food (food which would otherwise be thrown out) from local grocery stores and cooks it into a free, vegan meal. We also gather unused produce and other foods, like breads and pastries, and make them available for people to take after the meal.

Volunteering is on a walk-in basis, except for certain regular roles like weekly grocery pickups. The work is primarily composed of sorting, cleaning, and cutting up produce, assembling dishes, and watching pots and pans. There is no schedule and no registration; just show up when you can. Likewise, everyone is welcome to eat. The meal itself is self-service.

All of the food is vegan, but right now, we can't offer consistent gluten or nut-free foods. If you have concerns about the ingredients of a dish, ask someone who was involved in cooking it.

Food Not Bombs operates on non-hierarchical consensus decision making, meaning there is no formal executive of any kind. If you need to get in touch with a primary organizer, either leave a message here, or e-mail [masked].

We are happy to accept donations, of both food and funds.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
