Olympic Road Race/Box Hill - Intermediate Level

This is the 2012 Olympic Road Race route and Fran has kindly agreed to host this ride for RPCC.

The route is approximately 62 miles long and will lap Box Hill just the one time and not 9 times as in the Olympic event!

For details of the map, click here.

The road has been re-surfaced since the last time we visited and promises to give those, who haven't been up Box Hill and the surrounding areas, something of a real delight.

The pace will average around 12-13mph. You are expected to keep up with the main group, and the pace will be steady.

As usual we meet by the large map of Richmond Park in front of the coffee shop. Failure to attend or amend your RSVP could result in you being omitted on future rides.

Awesome ride, glad to be part of ‘The Seven...’ on the way to the Box Hill. Quite fast pace on the way back but Jorge & Vito will probably disagree with me. Thanks everyone for a fab day.

Thank you all for the good day, even the rain was friendly and didn´t show up as expected. Manage to finish the day with 140K in the legs.

Although this ride was rated intermediate around half the group wanted to ride considerably faster than the advertised pace. This made for a lack of cohesion in the first instance. Otherwise a very enjoyable day.

Loved this ride and had a great day, Thanks Fran and Wai. Jai you're very welcome and it was nice to have a buddy up the hills!

So pleased to have finally done this iconic ride. Big thanks to Fran for arranging it all. As ever a lovely bunch of people.

A brilliant ride led by Fran. We couldn't catch the Jorge/Vito express, but the Seven Samurai rode magnificently, flattening Box Hill. A lovely group and despite the now customary early hiccups, there was plenty of banter and laughs to go around. An exhilarating ride home topped off with a cameo appearance by Kelly - very enjoyable!

Great ride. Some nice hills, not just up, but down also!
I almost copped out with the shakes and cramp at around 60k from only eating a banana for breakfast and a torq bar! Was rescued by Suzanne and her breakfast nut bar and some gatorade. Thank you for saving me Suzanne.
As usual we lost Wai and waited, and waited, and waited to no avail, only to find he'd done his teleportation trick and was at the top of Box Hill having a picnic!
A pleasant ride back mostly downhill.
The rain thankfully held out, only a few little spits.
    Thoroughly enjoyable 100k.
Thanks for hosting this ride Fran.

Hi Nicky. There is a gpx file for the Olympic road race, labelled 2012 Olympic Road Race which was uploaded 16th May. This is of the official route. We start from Richmond Park, so there may be some changes. See you all soon!

Micky I don't know if there is one specifically for today. I knew the way before I got the Garmin so don't have one.

if anyone picks this up in time, I'm also a little confused which gpx file we're supposed to be using? I can't see a file for 4th June only 16th May for Boxhill? Hoping to leave by 9am if anyone can point me in the right direction! (See Wai, planning to be there early this time ;0)

This ride will go ahead as planned, the threat of rain seems to be receding and we all like a little adventure! :-)

The rpark-boxhill.gpx file was for the ride on the 4th of June as per description
Proposed route Mon 4th June 2012

The rpark-boxhill.gpx file route is only 69.89km not 62miles? although the file 2012_road_race.gpx is[masked]km I'm confused as to which file to go by, the longer one has the altitude/climb data, so I'm liking that one.

If this ride is rained off, then it will be re-scheduled for the following week. I will email attendees Saturday evening to confirm.

I spent 11 days eating pancakes in Crimea. I might struggle with this one....

Thanks a bunch for squeezing me in Wai, really appreciate it!

Please note that this ride is quite challenging with a distance of 62 miles and Box Hill. You must be able to keep up with the main group or you will need to make their own way home. Many Thanks.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
