dinner at Tanzitaro Mexican restaurant

note:  i have been unable to confirm as of today whether Mom's Old Recipe Mexican Restaurant is still open.  i am moving the dinner to another Mexican restaurant where we had our Cinco de Mayo dinner in 2010, just 3 block away from Mom's.  sorry for any confusion.

dear friends—

in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, our weeknight dinner next month will be on Thursday, May 3, starting at 7:00, at Tanzitaro, 6075 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, [masked]http://www.tanzitaro.com/ , suggested by Cande.

reservation will be under the name of Rick Malkowski.  to make things run more smoothly, I strongly recommend that you have enough cash to pay the bill:  some restaurants don't like splitting up credit card charges.

If you have a coupon you’d like to use at this or any other dinner, please check with me first.  If I have a coupon for the whole group to use, and there is a limit of one per table, the group coupon will take priority.  If not, feel free to use yours.

hope to see you and bon appetit ,

Rick

Great group of friendly people, but I thought the food was just kind of meh. The tortilla soup did not compare with other restaurants' versions (the old Chon y Chono in Little Village excelled at this dish) and the tamale dough was undercooked. Other people ordered full platters which looked delicious, so I may have just chosen the wrong stuff. All this was a minor note, though, compared with the overall enjoyability of the evening. I plan to attend more of Rick's meetups, for sure!

I hope this will be OK: I'm dressing for the weather, meaning hiking shorts and a windbreaker. I'll be CTA all the way and fully expect to get soaked. See you all soon!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
