I came to meditation 17 years ago when it felt like the world was falling apart around me. I've been studying and practicing ever since in the tradition of the Dalai Lama (Tibetan Buddhism). What a difference it's made.
Yes, many. Groups are so helpful. It takes discipline to meditate alone day after day. The group inspires me and keeps me on track. Plus, it's less distracting to meditate away from home. No dishes, laundry, dog to walk...
I find it grounding to be close to the earth, but as I age my body is less willing to sit comfortably on the floor. Sometimes I sit on a bench, which lets me be on the floor but keeps my legs from falling asleep. Being comfortable is important.
Even though I've been studying the teachings for many years, there's always something new to learn. That said, my focus is more on doing meditation practice than scholarly study of the texts.

I attend yoga. It has helped my function and eased discomfort. I look forward to meeting you Monday.
(continued from previous post) I find myself listening differently now to the audio books I play during my commute to work. I listen now, not only for the story line(which is all I used to listen for), but more critically now to the composition of words...the metaphors used, the way a setting is descriptively developed. I feel I gained surprising insight from my experience with the group. Thank you again!
Thanks Beth. I forgot to include in my message yesterday that I found the formulation of analyses of others' work as challenging as composing on the fly! One must listen differently in order to analyze. My untrained sense could easily enjoy a composition for any number of reasons, but coming up with concrete, instructive, meaningful feedback was not easy for me. Having had that singular experience in your workshop, I find myself listening differently now...continued
in another post.
Sorry I could not attend the Nov. 28th class as I was ill with a migraine. I will, however, reschedule at a future date.
Hi Beth! I really enjoyed my first creative writing group session! It was indeed an amazing experience to write on a spontaneous prompt! It was painting with words and very inspirational to qlimpse the minds of other artists. I look forward to joining the group when my dance class is over. Thank you for the warm welcome.
Hi Beth, I just joined and will be at the workshop on August 1. I signed up before reading your bio so was delighted to read that you also teach meditation and yoga--two other interests of mine! I am sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and hope that this Group is helping you in your healing process. I have my own personal issue that I want to address also through writing--either
in this class or on my own after getting the encouragement to write more! THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS.
Thank you for your greeting and I'll be there when my arm's not just dangling there (surgery)
Hi Beth,
I would love to join you this Thursday morning. What time and what place? Thank you!
Hi Beth,
A daytime meditation class sounds good. As long as it is around 10 am or later. I am not an early bird riser ;)
The picture was taken in Bora Bora. We got married there in 2003. Bora Bora and the Polynesian Islands are the most amazing islands. A truly magical place!!
I am sure you will have a blast in Hawaii. It is an amazing place to go as well.
Take care,
Cheryl
Thanks Beth, I'm looking forward to the first group I can attend on the 29th.
