Play Minecraft with your Meetup friends every Monday or Friday @ 4:00 pm (see Friday's separate Meetup page to RSVP for Fridays).
We have our own private Minecraft Server just for our Meetup group. Get together online with your new Meetup friends and explore, build, create and socialize while playing Minecraft.**
Note: On days where there is a 2nd Meetup scheduled, a second Minecraft Society game will be held @ 7:00 pm for any members who do not make it home by 4:00 pm. Feel free to Log In at 4:00 pm and/or 7:00 pm to see who is playing. After RSVP'ing, please Post to this Meetup to let other players know what time you will be playing, 4:00 pm or 7:00 pm.
Any members already signed up for the previous Kid's Online Computer Game Meetup are automatically signed up for our Monday's Minecraft Society.
!!NEW MEMBERS - READ THIS TO GET STARTED AND JOIN THE GAME/MEETUP!!
**MAKE SURE YOU TEST YOUR SERVER CONNECTION BEFORE THE MINECRAFT SOCIETY MEETUP DAY , EMAIL ME WITH ANY ISSUES THAT ARISE.
If you already have Minecraft on your computer, complete steps 1,2, & 7 to join this Meetup. Also make sure to go over the Courtesy Rules. If you do not have Minecraft on your computer you will need to complete steps 1,3,4,5,6, & 7 to join this Meetup. Also make sure to go over the Courtesy Rules.
1.) TO JOIN OUR MINECRAFT SOCIETY MEETUP - RSVP for this Meetup and answer the questions asked. You cannot gain access to the Server and game until you RSVP and answer the question about your "username." You will be prompted to answer the username questions after you RSVP for the Meetup. (After this initial RSVP/sign up you will not need to RSVP each week you want to play on Minecraft Society Monday's, you will now have access and are welcome to play whenever you choose, however RSVPing each week will let the other players know that you will be Logging In that week.)
2.) After you RSVP and submit your username, we will send you the IP address for our private Minecraft Server. Save this IP address you will need it to gain access to our group's Minecraft Server. If you already have Minecraft on your computer (if you don't skip to 3) open it up, select "Multiplayer," then click "Add Server." Next under "Server Name" enter "RCGC Minecraft Server," under "Server Address" enter the server IP Address we provided you, it should look like this 98.xxx.xxx.xx. Next, click "Done." On the next screen, when you see the server you added "RCGC Minecraft Server," click on it and then click on "Join Server." This will bring you into the game. To find basic Minecraft controls to help you play the game, after you open up Minecraft, on the same screen as the "Multiplayer" button, click on "Options" instead, next click "Controls," this will show you a list of controls that help you navigate through and play the game, it would be a good idea to print out this list for future reference. Anytime you play Minecraft after this initial set up, open up the game, click on the "Multiplayer" button, next click on the "RCGC Minecraft Server" you added previously, next click on "Join Server," this should take you into our Minecraft Society game. (Skip to #7 & Courtesy Rules)
3.) If you do not yet have the PC version of Minecraft on your computer, you will need to create an account, purchase the game, and download it to your computer (Minecraft's website is at https://minecraft.net/). We use the 1.7.2 version.
4.) Before playing Minecraft for your first time, it is not necessary, but you may want to watch a tutorial, Minecraft now has these on their website @ https://minecraft.net/game/howtoplay. To find basic Minecraft controls to help you play the game, after you open up Minecraft, on the same screen as the "Multiplayer" button, click on "Options," next click "Controls," this will show you a list of controls that help you navigate through and play the game, it would be a good idea to print out this list for future reference. After this you may first want to practice by yourself using the Singleplayer version of the game. We use "Creative mode" for our Multiplayer Minecraft Society, so when playing as a Singleplayer, if you are given the option "Survival or Creative" you would probably want to choose "Creative." Creative mode is generally easier than Survival mode, and when playing in it you won't have to worry about being attacked by "Zombies" or being blown up by a "Creeper" :). Survival Mode Note: Once in a while the more experienced players will change our game to Survival Mode for a time (not allowed during Monday's Minecraft Society game), so you may want to study up on the rules and Options for Survival mode so that you can avoid the "Mobs" or hostile Minecraft monsters. If you are attacked or "killed" by a Minecraft monster it is o.k., you will just be sent back to "spawn" or start the game over again. But, usually we will be playing in Creative mode. In our Monday's Minecraft Society game we only play in Creative mode and no destruction or fighting is allowed.
5.) After you have Minecraft 1.7.4 downloaded to your computer and you feel you know the basics of how to play the game, double click on your Minecraft icon and open up the game.
6.)To gain access to our group Server and play with the other members of the group, after opening up Minecraft, next click on the "Multiplayer" button. Next, click on "Add Server." Next under "Server Name" enter "RCGC Minecraft Server." Next, in the same area under "Server Address" enter the IP Address you received from us, it will start with 98.xxx.xxx.xx. Next, click on "Done." Next you will look for the server you added "RCGC Minecraft Server," when you see it click on it and then click on "Join Server." This should take you into our Minecraft Society game. After you have done this initial set up of our Server, the next time you log in to Minecraft you will not need to "Add Server" again, you will just click on the "Multiplayer button", then click on "RCGC Minecraft Server" you added previously, then click on "Join Server." This should take you into the Minecraft Society game.
7.) Parents please go over our Courtesy Rules with your child, by RSVP'ing for this online Meetup and logging on to the group's Minecraft Server you agree to play by the rules. Anyone not playing by the rules should be reported to the organizer of the Meetup.
Courtesy Rules: Each member who RSVP's for this Meetup agrees to the rules for playing with other members on Multiplayer games. Those rules are:
A.) No profanity or rude, harassing, mean, bullying, or any other negative or aggressive behavior or communication to other players will be tolerated.
B.) All players must play "fair" and according to the game rules.
C.) No, altering, damaging, or destroying of other players property will be tolerated. This includes the immediate area around another person’s property. Any gifts that are given to another player become that player’s property and should be treated as their property from that point forward.
D.) Be respectful and ask before entering a private Minecraft residence. Leave a "welcome" sign if you want others to explore your residence or creations when you are not there. Leave a "private" sign if you do not want others to explore your residence or creations when you are not there.
E.) Monday's Minecraft Society is to be played in Creative Mode only. No fighting, destroying, or any aggressive or negative behavior will be tolerated. Those who want to play in Survival Mode, should do so on another day of the week, and only with other players who have agreed to play in Survival Mode with you.
New members who play other online games:
You can RSVP for this Meetup and play Minecraft with other members of the group on Monday's at 4:00 or 7:00 pm, or if you are interested in finding members who play other online games in addition to Minecraft, you can submit your gaming information for all the other online games you play and we will add it to the Players List.
Safety Info. For Parents: This is a great way for your kids to be able to play online computer games in a relatively safe environment. Our group's private Minecraft Server is set up with a "White List" allowing only players with pre-approved usernames to log in to the game*. By using our Players List and knowing the games and usernames of the other members of the group, your kids can identify them on all their online games and play and socialize with only people they know. There are settings that can be utilized on most online games where you can enter a list of approved "usernames" limiting your child's interactions to just those players. By utilizing these type of controls your child will only have access to people you know and approve of. *However, there is always the chance of "hacking," so it is recommended that kids playing online games always have parental supervision.
