Blue Poppies - Longwood Gardens

Join us for a visit to Longwood Gardens to photograph the extraordinary blue poppies!

We will meet just inside the main entrance, where the tickets and tripod passes are obtained.

The date is subject to change and will be updated as we learn more about the progress of the blue poppies growth. However, it will remain a week day morning, as weekend mornings get very crowded very early.

Thank you Denise and Don for putting together this Meetup. The poppies were gorgeous and so many other lovely flowers to photograph. It was a fabulous time.

Some meetup especially in such a large place encourages people to scatter but it is nice knowing friends are nearby. And chatting at lunch was fun!

Would you please post an update on the blue poppies and when to go up there? I couldn't make this meetup, but would like to try to go up in the next 2 weeks. Thank you.

The poppies last about 2 weeks, so generally the weekend near 3/15 is a good bet. I would advise getting there at 9 am before the crowds. It is a popular attraction.

Regret that we now will not be able to make it.

For folks planning on either attending this event or heading up on our own to photograph the blue poppies... as of March 5, 4:30pm... the poppies have not bloomed. Longwood is giving no indication of progress either, but said to call next week. I will try again, midweek and may change the date of this event depending on what I learn.

Thanks for keeping an eye on this for all of us, Denise. I definitely plan to get back to shoot the poppies this year; preferably with the group but, if the new date doesn't work out for me, I'll try to get up there on my own.

Denise, I'm planning to drive down the night before, so would potentially need to change a hotel reservation. When do you think you'll know if you're changing the date? Thanks!

Steve. Will be nice to see you. Longwood told me to call next week. So I am planning on Monday. So will hopefully be able to update then.

See the comment I posted. We plan on going on Friday, and hope for the best.

Good Morning... I called Longwood this morning and they do not really have any further update, other than to say Mid to Late March. Given that we are scheduled for March 14th, we are planning to make this ago. There is so much within the gardens to shoot, in addition to the poppies and this is such a lovely time of year, we feel that it is worthwhile to stick to this date and keep our fingers crossed. We will be meeting folks outside of the front doors, just before the gardens open which is 9AM. So figure you will find us there around 8:45AM. Hope to see folks out. If you plan on not coming, please update your RSVP, so we know. Thanks!!
