Tramp in Upper Hutt Area - Mt Holdsworth 2-days trip this weekend!!!

  • Sep 11, 2010 · 10:00 AM

Hi all! I know this is a very short notice... And it's also overlapping with the Adventure group tramp on Sunday... but with the
sun starting to warm up the country and the birds waking me up in the morning I feel like spring is there. This means (at least for me) to
get the tramping boots and backpack out! In case anyone is keen to join me - sign up for this and / or send me an email. We'll be heading off in direction of Masterton late Saturday morning. Probably around 10-11am. I can offer 3 seats in my car. We'll go up to Mt Holdsworth Sat. afternoon, stay in the Powell Hutt and return on Sunday. It's about 25k in total (Up/down the same track: Gentle Annie Track, Mountain House, Powell Hutt) - so a good warm up for the season
cool Details can be found here:
http://www.peakbaggin... And this is an overview of the track:
http://www.doc.govt.n...
What you'll need: The usual tramping gear... including sleeping bag, enough dry cloths, good footwear food and drinks for the 2 days and of course don't forget your camera ... and maybe something entertaining for the evening? Also note: This is a serviced Backcountry DOC Hut. Backcountry huts cannot be booked and are occupied on a first in first served basis. A
backcountry hut pass or hut tickets are required for overnight stays. They can be purchased from sports shops, service stations, information centres, and DOC. (Powell Hut: [Serviced: 3 tickets / night])

This was great!!! Jon, Peter, thanks for coming along and making this trip unforgettable. We've been lucky with the weather - who cares about a few drops in this area? Had a muddy, rough and steep incline, a great evening in Powell Hut, even with fire and met nice peaople (Hope to see you again - and thanks again for the drinks :-) ) After a comfy night on the bunks we went up to the top with incredible views up to Kapiti island.
The way back down was muddy and steep again but fairly easy along the river in the end. Had some good food and yummy icecream in the sun on the way back - before returning to cool and rainy Wellington.
Thanks again - hope we'll go on another tour again! And sorry to all of you who couldn't make it on that short notice. Next time!

Hey all, my car will be full with Jon, Peter and (the hopefully not drunk) Raj. If anyone else decides to join on a short notice please post or mail tonight or early tomo morning. I guess we won't leave Wellington before 10 or 11 am as some may need to get their Hut passes from DOC in the morning.

Looks like more fun than what I was going to do on Saturday... if the weather holds out. I keep my gear pretty much ready all the time, so no worries about the short notice. I'd like a lift if you still have space in the car.

Normally, I'd spring at the opportunity, but have to call my best friend in Canada on saturday (last chance for a while).
