Mairenui weekend

There are now a couple of spaces on this trip for anyone who wants to join us THIS Friday...

We will be bringing 'pot luck' to share, so please bring your favourite food for a breakfast, lunch and dinner and we'll just put it all together....

If you would like to join us for Friday the 31st Aug and Saturday 1st Sept please pop your $62.50 each into my account  to confirm your place. This pays for accommodation for the weekend. My account number is Cecily Guarrera, National Bank no. [masked] 01.  All bedding and towels is provided for....

Of course there are quite a lot of double rooms which is tricky for a meet-up group!!!! There are 2 twin rooms and 4 double rooms. We only have one couple coming who of course would take one double room. But not sure of the logistics of the rest...

Anything else (apart from hoping for fine weather)???

Look forward to hearing your ideas...and to celebrating spring in the countryside :)

Mairenui is located 10 kilometres from State Highway One, on a scenic through road to Palmerston North.
The turn-off from SH1 to Ruahine Road is approximately 50 metres north of the village of Mangaweka, the village being recognisable by a DC3 airplane café parked beside the road (Mangaweka International Airport!).
After Ruahine Road crosses the Rangitikei River, do not turn to the left, but continue along beside the river. 10km from Highway 1, a single lane bridge and a large uphill section will bring you to the gates of Mairenui. I'll put a balloon on the gatepost to help find the place....

From Meet Up we have the following people confirmed and my understanding of the lifts are:

I am planning to be there at 4.30 to speak to the woman at the main house and get the key. I'll try to remember to put a balloon on the post so when people arrive they can drive straight up to the Villa. These country places are not always so obvious to find lol!

I have said to Mairenui that I will be there by 4.30 to speak to the woman at the main house and get the key. When the rest of you arrive you can drive straight up to the Villa. I will try to remember to put a balloon on the gatepost when I arrive to help with identification - sometimes these country places are not so obvious to find lol!

I will need to relook at travel especially with my guest attending also. I'll chat to him to see if he is keen to car-pool or whether he would like to take his own vehicle? Will come back with an update :-)

Thanks Bonnie - will be good to have Graeme along :)
Perhaps change your first RSVP to 'not going' and then the second one with Graeme as guest will stay up there...(???)

Hi Cecily and everyone. I know I have pulled out but I think that everyone who committed to going should still pay the accommodation cost...and only get it back if and when someone else fills the place. It's not fair on everyone else otherwise. The accommodation was booked on the understanding that there were 12 going.

    1 · August 18, 2012

  • cecily g.

Uh okay...I guess my assumption was that if people said they wanted to go they would commit to that if we booked we would definitely go...because now we have someone else wanting to pull out and get there money back and a couple haven't paid yet....so what do you all suggest??? HELP! My first time organising this and now do we all pay more because there's less of us going? I can't cancel because we've booked and paid a deposit...what do you others who DO want to go suggest? EEKKK!

  • cecily g.

Unfortunately Gareth is now scheduled to work this weekend and cannot join us, so if any of you would like to bring a friend along there is now a place :)

Thanks Caroline for the accommodation money put in yesterday. So it seems you still need a lift Nat, is that right?

Wow...this is all coming together quickly. I like Gareth idea too in terms of a more relaxed approach to food. Happy to pitch i andn contribute where needed on the cooking front :-)

    August 2, 2012

  • cecily g.

    Thanks for your thoughts Carolyn.
Okay - so can anyone take John so that I can take a mattress?
I agree - be easier without the sheep for me - but if anyone particularly wants to learn this skill - shout out now so I can organise!! :)
Yes - bed linen is provided - not sure about towels - will email them.
    Carrot cake sounds good....

I like the idea of 'one meal catered for 12' Gareth - that let's me off thinking about food the rest of the weekend! I'm happy to do Friday night meal and mojitos so everyone can relax and settle in after the drive. Thoughts on this anyone?
