No matter where your interest in cameras and photo editing take you, it's always more fun when you can find a PURPOSE for the pictures. This meetup will provide more different reasons to boot up your camera than any other that we've ever held before.
If just growing our technical camera and editing skills isn't challenging enough, then how about adding the extra dimension of recording images that tell a story - either with a series of shots - or maybe by just finding a story within a single picture (eg. see the meerkat image below). As always for these SFE outings, we'll review uploads to our site at our regular monthly meeting the following Wednesday night (see the separate announcement).
Compositing parts of different pictures into one image using selections and Layer masks in Photoshop isn't for everyone, but for those of us who like that kind of thing, we're also inviting uploads of composites from this shoot that include animals in interesting or humorous poses, wearing clothing, etc. etc. Those who've worked with composites before already know that getting the right shot is often the hardest part. That can be a learning experience in itself!
Let's see... reasons for taking pictures of animals at a zoo. OH!! Did I mention that the Zoo's annual calendar contest is underway? RPEG hasn't done very well competing against our friends at Nature Photography in this contest in past years, so we're moving with a bit less... fanfare this time. Wouldn't it be nice though, if we could come from behind with a surprise win this year?!
Bring your family: Bring your friends. Hopefully there will be a discount at the gate for RPEG members, and we'll have more on that later. In the meantime, be sure to RSVP soon, rather than later, and come ready to have a good time!
