Who thinks of shooting and editing fireworks pictures in September?  Thanks to the Village of Pittsford, WE do!  In preparation for the Fireworks shoot at Schoen Place on Saturday the 14th, Carl will go over camera settings and shooting techniques at this meeting to get us ready to capture some great photos.

We'll also have time for another installment of "RPEG Movietime", courtesy of those nice California-type folks at  Always in search of the "AHA" moment, we'll try to find a couple of clips that introduce something new to what most of us are already doing.

Finally if there's time, we'll have some LR and PS demos that may be new for many of you, so be sure to pack a pen and some paper just in case, and... need I say it?  Why not invite a friend who might also enjoy belonging to RPEG?!!

Were there any high level notes from this meetup on how to photograph fireworks?

Carl uploaded his recipe here I think, but my first reaction when I saw it was that his shutter speeds were pretty slow. Then I discovered at the shoot the other night that at Schoen Place we're not only capturing the bright bursts, but also two very dark buildings in the foreground. Because of those kinds of variables, recipes can vary a lot. You can Google for fireworks settings, but don't be afraid to vary them for different effects on your own.

I agree with Steve. In fact, if you want to see examples of shorter shutter speeds that evening take a look at the ones Tom posted (#98, #99, #100 in the album). You'll see much darker skies and foreground with the shorter shutter speeds. Not better or worse than longer speeds, just different!

Ditto Al's comment. For me, one of the better meetings; the time just flew by.

Program was very well presented with many charts and past photos. I came away from the meeting feeling good because I know where I’m to meet and at what time.

Hi Alex, You mean besides a bag of small unmarked bills? No, nothing. Bring a pen and something to write on, and be sure to let someone know if you need help with Carl's Tennesseean accent.

    Hello All,

Unfortunately the Monthly Meetings are on Wed. Evenings.

Now that Choir Practice has started, for the 2013/14 year, I won't be able to make the Meetings until next June.

If Stephen schedules a Shoot for another night, I will try to attend.
So until next June, have a great year.

Your a great group. Thanks for the Fun and the Lessons.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
