Display Your Photograph at RPEG's “Gallery-Within-A-Gallery”

We've reserved the front section of Image City Photography Gallery from July 15 through August 10 for RPEG members to display their photographs. This is an opportunity to have your best photograph on display in an established and highly-respected gallery.

The show opens at noon on July 15, and the opening reception for the show will be Friday evening, July 18 when hundreds of people are expected to visit the gallery and see the photographs on display, including yours! Hundreds more will visit the gallery during the four week show. The show will be heavily promoted and advertised through the gallery's extensive PR network, the email newsletter, and posters and cards. Your name will be listed on the posters and cards so you'll be able to post them where you want, and you can mail the cards to your friends and family.

The fee for entering your photograph will be $25. There is a limit of one per person so more can have the chance to enjoy this unique opportunity. Admittance to the show will be on a first come, first served basis so confirm your space as soon as possible.

When you RSVP to this event you'll be asked to remit your payment and you're in! Well... almost. Carl has reserved the right to review the images to be displayed to be certain they meet the standards of the gallery. After you make your payment you and Carl will be in contact to review your image and discuss printing/matting/framing options, and if you want your photograph to be made available for purchase you'll be given some pricing suggestions.

The featured photographers for this show are Dick Bennett and Carl Crumley. Their photographs will be on the gallery's main walls. The other 8 gallery partners, artist-in-residence Jim Patton, and the gallery's intern will have their photographs on display around the gallery. In the East Gallery photographer Michelle Turner will be showing a number of her fine photographs.

Here's a recent photograph of the gallery showing the locations (marked in red) where RPEG will be located:

Thanks Carl for your efforts to make available space for RPEG in the gallery - it was a great experience and I'm glad we were afforded this opportunity.

Carl, great job on the display of the pictures. Thanks for uploading them Too bad I can't zoom in on them. Looking forward to the show.

Mari, you CAN zoom in on them, at least the ones I took in the gallery yesterday after we put up your photos are full sized JPEGs with a lot of detail. Just click on the photo and it'll take you to another window with a full screen version of the photo. Then, if you want even more detail, click on THAT photo and it will give you a 100% view.

Maybe that does not work on my Samsung S3 phone when I try to 'pinch' it... no problem

Mine will be an 11x14 in a 16x20 frame. I will settle on an image this week and email the jpg to you for review. I will use my Venice photo that both you and Dick approved as a backup.

Yes, I brought it with me to Wednesday's meeting thinking you'd be there. I showed it to the group and they liked it! It's at the gallery now so you can pick it up and bring it back on July 13, or just leave it if you want.

      June 14, 2014

    • Barbara O.

Thanks, Carl...couldn't make it Wednesday. Will try to get in this week and pick up the photo as I would like to see it before it is in the show....thanks again for redoing it!

Carl, after long delineation I made a decision about which image to display. As I'm new to this, how does one determine a price? Also, where our how do we display title, photographer, ...anything else? Thx. Mari

    June 13, 2014

    • Carl C.

Mari, send me an email at [masked] with the image you selected, tell me how it's matted/framed and what size, and I'll post it on the website. Price is up to you, but I generally recommend about 2 to 3 times your cost. Typically for a standard gallery size of 11x14 print in a 16x20 frame that works out to between $150 and $225, but again, it's up to you. We'll make labels for the images using our standard gallery format for them. I'll be sending an email requesting specific information in a couple of weeks.

  • David S.

Carl, when do you need titles and prices for our photos?

    May 21, 2014

    • Carl C.

Not for another month or so David.

      May 21, 2014

  • Elaine

Are there certain requirements for framing?

    May 21, 2014

    • Carl C.

I'd like to keep the maximum outside dimension at 16x20 to be sure we have space for everyone. The gallery prefers white mats and black metal frames, but exceptions can be made to that. Please send a JPEG image to me of the photograph you plan to display. Thanks!

I would like to participate in this. I will get the $25 dollars to you.

    May 21, 2014

    • Carl C.

Elaine, you can give me a check next time we see each other at a meeting, or drop by the gallery anytime and pay there.

      May 21, 2014

  • Mario K.

I would like to submit a photo for the gallery show

    May 15, 2014

    • Carl C.

Mario, I'll show you as confirmed for the show, and you'll need to pay up when you get a chance (no big hurry). Send me an email with a few JPEG's attached so I can look them over and we can discuss them, print size, frame size, etc.

Okay Carl, I am in! Thanks for your help the other day. I will drop a check off on Tuesday 4/15 if that is okay with you.

    April 3, 2014

    • Carl C.

That's fine Sue. I'll be out of town while you're taking the Lightroom course, and I'll look forward to seeing your final edit when I get back.

I'm frame shopping. I see many 16x20 frames, but my question is about the hole of the matte. Is 11x14 typical for that frame size or do that have mattes with bigger image holes? Thanks in advance for your reply!! :-)

    March 10, 2014

    • Carl C.

Al said it well... it's up to your personal preference. Yes, I use 11x14 images in 16x20 frames which gives me 3 inch mat width on the top and bottom, and 2 1/2 inch mat width on the sides. Visually it looks good to me. A 10x14 print size would result in an equal mat size of 3 inches all around. Another common arrangement is to have a larger mat width on the bottom of the image. They call that a "weighted" mat.

Wow - nervous about thinking about displaying one of my shots, due to lack of experience. But maybe :-)

    February 5, 2014

    • Patty Ulrich S.

OK - I'm in! Do you think an 8x10 is too small? Hopefully I will see you tonight, Carl.

      February 7, 2014

    • Carl C.

I wouldn't go any smaller than 8 X 10. Yes, I'll be at the gallery this evening and maybe I'll see you then.

      February 7, 2014

  • Carl C.

I've changed the start date of the show from July 16 to July 15 since Image City is now open on Tuesdays. We get an extra day for our show!

  • Al M.

Hi Carl, just signed up. When do you want people to drop off their photos?

    January 15, 2014

    • Carl C.

I haven't worked that out the exact dates yet Al, but it will be very close to the date the show begins so you have some time to get things ready.

I would love to be a part of the show.

I'll bring a check along Friday too.

    January 2, 2014

Carl. Do you want me to send you a check? I won't be back to drop it off until April 1st

      January 5, 2014

    • Maryanne N.

Will do Carl. Hope you're feeling better. The show was impressive!

  • Luann

    Carl,
I would also like to participate in this photography event at Image City. Could I bring or leave a check at Image City Gallery on Friday night at the opening of the Magic of Light?

    December 30, 2013

    • Carl C.

I'm glad you'll be joining us Luann. Yes, you can make a check out to the gallery and give it to me Friday.

      December 30, 2013

    • Carl C.

Sheridan told me he has the check you left. Thanks!

      January 5, 2014

  • Karen W.

Hi Carl, I'd love to participate. I'll be away until mid-January, but can arrange to get you the payment before then if you'd like. I'd really like to have you look at a few photos and help me choose the one to display if you have the time.

    Thanks.

    December 30, 2013

    • Carl C.

That's great Karen. We'd love to have you participate. Go ahead and reserve your spot, and we'll talk about payment later.

      December 30, 2013

  • Henrietta F.

Is there a deadline by which we need to submit a photo for your review?

    December 23, 2013

    • Carl C.

I haven't set a deadline, but if you have to pin me down I'd say 10 days before the show starts. In reality we should do it much sooner though. I'm a bit busy for the holidays so I haven't even talked with the people who've signed up so far!

      December 23, 2013

  • David S.

Carl, what is the frame size we can have?

    December 18, 2013

    • Carl C.

David, I'd like to keep the maximum outside frame size to 16x20 to be sure we have room for everyone.

      December 18, 2013

    • David S.

      Sounds good Carl. ;-)
