Portrait Photography Training - Photography in the Field

Details

I have conducted several DSLR basics workshops in a classroom setting. The response has been very positive, and I feel that these workshops have benefitted from the ability to convey a lot of concepts via illustrations and photographs. However, I noticed that every time we venture outdoors for the brief hands-on portion everyone is reluctant to return to the classroom. So, we are taking to the park for this class.

So, your goal is to master the mechanics of photography such that your camera becomes an extension of you, which will leave you free to focus on composition and expression

Having said that, I would bring everything that you own, i.e. lenses, flash, filters, reflectors, diffusers, etc. If you don't own any of these things don't worry about it. Come on out and see how they are used and decide if they should become part of your kit.

Discussion of Natural Light - seeing the light, finding a favorable location that allows your subject to be at their best.

Discussion of Light Modifiers - good technique for maximizing your exposure, including diffusers, reflectors, on-camera flash, off-camera flash. Each of these can work well, it often times comes down to the objective of your session and the level of spontaneity you are trying to achieve.

Lens selection to support your "vision" of the final image.

Posing Techniques - demonstration of working with a subject to position them in a flattering, natural manner so they can look their best.

Interaction Tips - focus your attention on your subject, not your LCD screen, be ready to capture their spontaneity.

Questions from the participants. - come prepared with your questions. I am happy to do my best address your landscape related questions and problems.
