I have used python only twice before (so far). First, I used a simple python script to send out fake GPS messages over a serial port to test out my assembly code for an embedded micro-controller which would be used to trigger certain actions (opening and closing collection chambers, cutting the balloon and opening the parachute) on a scientific balloon platform. Second, I used a python script interfaced with blender to take data from a project and create and render a custom 3d graph in Blender. I have been using Mathematica, but the support for making orthographic viewpoints were lacking.
I would like to learn how to manage datasets, read files in and out, restructure arrays, convert data from Mathematica to Python and vice versa. If I had an easy way to interface Mathematica with Python, I would probably use Python more, but currently I try to keep all of my work within Mathematica.
I just graduated from LSU last May with a degree in physics and I just moved to Rochester to continue studying at U of R.
