The year is 2072 and the world has changed...humans now share the planet with elves, dwarves, orks, and trolls. Magic has returned and now co-exists with high technology. Guns and spells, augmented bodies (magical and cybernetic) and reality are everywhere. Megacorporations now rule the world and have become the new "nations." A sizeable majority do not share in the wealth of the corporate world either voluntarily or by less-than-voluntary means. Some become nothing more than homeless "lost souls;" some turn to crime becoming gang-bangers or members of more organized groups; the remainder become "shadowrunners" -- unique individuals from a variety of backgrounds who do the dirty work for any group that will pay them and whose morals they can live with (assuming they care about who they work for and are willing to find out). You are a "Shadowrunner."

Currently looking for 4 to 6 individuals who wish to learn and/or play at my home in Fairport on Thursday nights, 6 pm to 10 pm or so. Could possibly accommodate one or two additional players, but if there is more demand, I could see about setting up another event. I do like to teach others when playing and like other players willing to accommodate new players.

I hear you. Unfortunately I was losing players left and right -- Drew, Ben, both Seans now, leaving just 2 to 3 players left. And nobody was signing up to replace the losses. Heck, I was getting more declines if anything. I would like to try again which is part of the reason I sent out an e-mail to everyone on the Meet-Up group mailing list regarding some kind of survey or something that would make scheduling easier, and what kind of games or whatever members are interested in. But, I doubt something like that will happen...would help if more people looked at the message boards, but very few seem to...:-(

Sorry to hear that Drew, my condolences. I really had fun gaming with you... and everyone else as well. I had too much going on every week as far as gaming is concerned: 2 other campaigns (Wed Pathfinder at Boldo's and the other Sunday Shadowrun) and another boardgaming meetup group as well as the Rochester boardgamer's at Millenium and Netrunner Mondays at Millenium, so I had to drop something. Since this game only met for a few hours biweekly I had to let it go. Too bad as it was a good group...

My condolences also. It was fun meeting and gaming with everyone. Unfortunately real life sometimes gets in the way, and real life must always come first. Perhaps sometime in the future we can all get together again. Good luck to everyone!

  • Alex

Yeah... me too. Maybe someone can give it another go over the summer?

    June 6, 2013

  • Mike

    I'm officially bummed out.

    June 6, 2013

  • Sean P.

I'm sorry that I hadn't posted anything sooner. I'm a full time student and I am taking classes this summer. I thought that I would be able to participate in the game and take classes, but the work load is overwhelming. Thank you for being a good host Frank, we appreciate you having us over for Shadow Run.
    Regards,
    Sean Patrick

As the number of participants has dwindled to about 3 people or so and the lack of responses for replacements, I am canceling all further Thursday night meet-ups at my place for Shadowrun as of June 5th, 2013. Thanks to all who participated and best wishes in the future.

Oh snap i totally missed tonight. Crazy work stuff, really sorry guys.

just getting ready to raid the place we are right outside the facility. Hopefully we will see you on Sunday at 6

      May 23, 2013

    • Frank S.

Was getting worried as you missed last Sunday and tonight. Drew has dropped out due to real life issues, and tonight was Ben's last night. Looks like more recruiting to do. Anyway, we meet this Sunday at 6 pm as I have something else going on earlier...group has started a mission, still early though. Next Thursday meet-up will be June 6th. Hope to see you soon!

      May 23, 2013

  • Frank S.

I'm ready to go though Drew's withdrawal due to real-life issues means the troll may be an NPC. Also wish Drew and his famjily good fortune in the times ahead!!

    Don't forget our meeting tonight!!

  • Alex

Slow start but cool game. Thanks to all for the assists. Grabbed a 4th edition rule book on ebay for $16. Not bad!

    April 28, 2013

    • Frank S.

I figured it would be starting slow since so many were new to the game, and those of us that knew it have a bit of "rust" to get off. Things should improve as everyone becomes more familiar with the game. I know the company that makes the game is working on a new addition, probably out next year for 25th anniversary, but they usually put out a conversion booklet or something for those who already play.

      April 28, 2013

    • Frank S.

Oh, depending on what edition you bought, there are probably some errors scattered about. I do have some errata pdfs on my PC for the main rulesbook depending on the edition.

      April 28, 2013

  • Sean C. J. B.

A few of us thought we might change the meeting time to 6-11pm instead of 6-10pm since we are only meeting biweekly. That way we can get a little more playing time in. Does that work ok for everyone?

    April 27, 2013

    • Evan C.

I'll try to get out of work earlier but I'd be there at 6:30 at the earliest probably.

      April 27, 2013

    • Alex

Unfortunately I'd have to stick to the original 6pm to 10pm that Frank set up. If the rest of the group is up for changing it I totally understand (wouldn't expect everyone to have to change it for one player). I just may need to opt out.

I had a bunch of fun last night! I know a few of you expressed some interest in a computer version of Shadowrun so here's the website with the dev blogs and all http://harebrained-schemes.com/shadowrun/ it's looking pretty cool and it's slated to drop in June.

    April 26, 2013

    • Frank S.

Actually there will two computer games -- the one above is a single player version called Shadowrun Returns, the other is Shadowrun Online, an MMORPG probably out in a couple of years, In addition, there is another platform videogame coming out called Cyberpunk 2077 based on R. Talsorian's tabletop rpg called Cyberpunk 2020 which came out about 30 years ago. Shadowrun Returns has some video on Youtube as does Cyberpunk 2077 (very slick looking trailer). Mike Pondsmith, creator of Cyberpunk 2020 is assisting the making of 2077 too.

Works for me, see you in a few weeks, was fun.

    April 27, 2013

  • Sean P.

It was a good night! I'm looking forward to it again in a couple of weeks.

    April 25, 2013

  • Frank S.

Great to see everyone made it tonight! A bit of a slow start, but that was expected as most were new to the game but enthusiastic. Given more time, things should flow far easier. Hope to see everyone in two weeks at 6 pm.

    April 25, 2013

  • Sean C. J. B.

I have 10 pages of background information in pdf format that will really fill you in on the game setting. If you want me to email it to you please send me your email.

    April 21, 2013

    • Ben A.

I'd like a look at it as well: [masked]

      April 22, 2013

    • Alex

Thanks for the PDFs Sean. See everyone tomorrow!

OK, it looks like a full house then...better than I expected (and assuming everyone shows). I have drawn up 7 pregenerated characters plus Sean (Bourke) will be bringing his own -- a hacker I believe -- thus providing more than enough to choose from (pre-gens listed earlier). I know everyone likes creating their own, but with pre-gens I have found that: 1) it saves time when learning a new game; and 2) I have found in the past that those not familiar with the game, and generate their own, tend to discover quickly that their creations need serious tweaking...which tends to disrupt the flow of a story, continuity-wise. Please let know ASAP if you cannot make it this Thursday. Also, if you need to get some edibles, there are a number of places nearby = McDonalds, Wendys, Subway, DiBellas, Wegmans, Bill Grays for take-out...plus Dennys, Aja Noodle, and a few other eat-in places. Hope to see everyone this Thursday!!

I'm psyched Frank, working on my character now. I am planning on bringing a few books, are there any in particular you would like me to bring from the core rulebooks?

      April 21, 2013

    • Frank S.

I think I have pretty much what I need as I am trying to keep it to the main rules book to avoid getting everyone overwhelmed including me (working on getting a few years of "rust" off). I do have quite a few of the other core supplements, but just want to keep it easy for now.

It looks like there are already six signed up... but if another spot opened up, how much of a newb are you willing to take on? My only experience with D&D type games were with RGMG a while ago and I only played maybe four times. Shadowrun sounds pretty sweet though.

    April 19, 2013

    • Alex

Okay, there are six plus GM, but I'm going to join up and see if either A) there's room for the seventh player or B) someone doesn't show. See everyone Thursday!

      April 21, 2013

    • Frank S.

I did prepare for a seventh player so hopefully things should be OK. I have run with more that in the past, but 6 to 7 is about my optimum limit. See you then!!!

      April 21, 2013

  • Alex

    Looking forward to it.

    April 21, 2013

  • Sean C. J. B.

Do you know what other character types there are going to be?

    April 20, 2013

    • Frank S.

Also note that the above have been tweaked a bit from the rulesbook writeups, but are still starting characters.

      April 21, 2013

    • Sean C. J. B.

The original character had a little over 400 BP, but I can tweak him to get him down to 400

      April 21, 2013

  • Sean C. J. B.

Frank, I decided to join up after all. I'll make up my hacker character this week before I come over. Look forward to seeing everyone!

    April 20, 2013

  • Frank S.

One week to go, and hoping everyone can make it!! Anyone else is still welcome to play, maybe one or two other players...additional folks for back-up or for separate get-together. I am setting the game at a beginner level as some people are new to the game, and others like me could use a good brushing up. We can also decide if we wish to continue on, and if so, see if weekly or bi-weekly is preferred...and maybe other details.

    April 18, 2013

    • Sean P.

I am new to the game. Are there going to be pre gen characters or do we make them up that night?

      April 18, 2013

    • Frank S.

I am doing up the pre-gen characters right now...slight variations on the examples from the rulesbook. Right now I am planning for a human smuggler (vehicles included), Elf combat mage, Ork gunslinger adept (think gun-fu expert), dwarf rigger (vehicle and drones), human covert-ops specialist, and human technomancer (a hacker who needs no gear to enter the matrix). All will be starting characters, the only things I left for the players was to decide the character's name and sex, plus roll up starting cash. I may even do a seventh character as a surprise choice (starting level too).

      April 19, 2013

  • Evan C.

Ah damn, if it was like a little later I could make it but I work until six :(

    April 8, 2013

    • Evan C.

      *Thursday, not tomorrow. Doh!

      April 9, 2013

    • Frank S.

Thursday, the 25th, to be accurate as this Thursday I may be attending a meeting with my Professional Association and not be here for a while...

      April 9, 2013

  • Frank S.

First off, that should read "Fairport" NY. My house does have a long driveway to accommodate parking (about 80-90 feet, two cars wide). A number of eateries are nearby - McDonalds, Wendys, DiBellas, Panera, Subway, Aja Noodle, Bill Grays, plus a Wegmans and a Topps. I will probably generate several characters for players to choose from to save time. Anyone bringing their own will be subject to approval (should be a starting character though) -- remember, 4th edition! Hope to see everyone who signs up!!

    March 29, 2013

    • Mike

I'm definitely down for biweekly. I don't think I could swing weekly.

      April 9, 2013

    • Frank S.

I guess on the first meeting, we could all decide if everyone wants to meet weekly or biweekly and iron out other details.

      April 9, 2013

  • Bill H.

I will be out of town that weekend.
