Monthly Meeting

Monthly meetings will be the Second Monday of every month at the Panera in Henrietta. As usual we'll discuss any upcoming events we want to partake of, such as conventions, movies, shows, gaming nights, minicons, other assorted gatherings etc. And of course whatever geek-related topics that take our fancy at the time.

Look forward to seeing everyone and meeting more new people! These are ideal meets for new members - very relaxed so hopefully not too daunting. :)

The only thing that I wish that we could've done is something to unify the group a bit...like we all play a game of some kind or "plot" some ideas for future meet ups. Otherwise very welcoming and pleasant. I thought the Christmas "bangers" :D were a fun addition, and I'm sorry that the person who brought them is leaving before I can get to know her better. Good luck in OH!

I think the main thing that detracts from unifying more as a group is most everyone has busy schedules and/or lack of funds. It also doesn't seem to help in that there are currently 234 members of which I estimate less than 10% are currently "active." The newly organized Rochester Game Nights Meet-Up group I believe also suffers or will suffer the same issues as well. The friendliness, comraderie, and common interests are there, it's just difficult in getting everyone's schedule to match up to make the most of it. Luckily for me, I am just finishing up school with a hopefully a job to get soon, and thus will have a bit more time available!:-)

I usually ask for input from members regarding activities they'd like to engage in, and I always encourage feedback. I did go around the table, but with 24 people present, it's tough to get everyone's attention at once, and I didn't get to everyone individually. Like Frank says, scheduling is the main issue. (Along with finding a venue.) I plan on pushing people harder in the New Year. ;)

It looks like we'll be out in force again tonight! If it's your first meet, our group will probably be near the middle of Panera, and we'll probably have a sign on the table to identify us. (If you find that everyone is discussing knitting, you may have found the wrong group.) See you there. :)

Ok one serious question to Dan, I know that we're to be giving dues for the table reservation...it's $2 a meetup right? And now something ridiculous and goofy that I found on Youtube, its a Dalek relaxation tape....go guided imagery Dalek style! :D I feel relaxed during finals week from this certainly...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJSQFzw1pEE

No, there's no regular mandatory cost to attend the meetups. I just ask for voluntary contributions occasionally toward the meetup site cost ($72 per 6 months). Thanks to everyone that contributed over the last few meets, we're good until February. (Of course, if you'd like to donate in advance, that's great, but you don't have to.) See you tonight. :)

Bill, why is the world ending this time? Does it have something to do with alpaca-mageddon

Like I said before, the mayans foretold it which was nice as they had run out of stone to chisel on...so now we can have a "No Year's Party" to celebrate the coming "No Year"!!!

Could call it a "No Years Party" like my Official Mayan Apocolypse calendar calls 'em in preparation for "Happy No Year's Day!"
