Let's stand together against offshore drilling and hold BP accountable for the massive oil spill in the Gulf! Please help us by taking one or all of the actions below:

Emergency Activist Night!!!
Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 6 to 8pm
We need your help more than ever!!! Help us prepare for our Thursday demonstration by making signs and banners, writing letters to the editor, and calling supporters to attend the demonstration. Please join us at the Royal Oak office (1723 West 14 Mile Road) from 6 to 8pm. As always, we will provide pizza and refreshments for all those that help.

BP Oil Demonstration: A Call for BP to Clean up it's Mess and a Moratorium on Offshore Drilling
Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 5 to 6pm
BP gas station in Royal Oak at 12 Mile & Woodward ( 28992 Woodward Ave)
http://www.mapquest.c...

Street parking is available on Linwood Ave, behind BP and the school, with entrances on both 12 Mile and Woodward.

Show your support for clean energy! Help us demand a moratorium on all off-shore drilling and hold BP accountable to cleaning up the Gulf Coast. We will provide some signs but please consider making your own as well or bring a mop or broom as part of our “Clean it Up” message. Here are some ideas for signs: “Clean Energy NOW,” “Moratorium on Off-shore Drilling,” “Off-shore Drilling is Dirty,” and “Polluters Should Pay.”

Pass on the youtube video with the event announcement to your friends, http://www.youtube.co....

Write Letters-to-the-Editor!!!
Letters-to-the-editor are very important. Our neighbors and public officials need to hear us loud and clear on this issue. Please consider writing a short letter (150 words) to your newspaper. Below are some quick talking points.

  • This tragic oil disaster in the Gulf Coast changes everything--this is a wake-up call
  • We need to clean up the Gulf Coast and we need to clean up America’s energy
  • Offshore drilling is risky, dangerous, and can ruin our beaches, coastal habitats, and local economies.

If you send one, please let us know by sending an e-mail to melissa.damaschke@sierraclub.org

THANK YOU!

...It is time for all to unify as One Voice...
Thank you again, for allowing me to be your california long-distance member. As requested, I will indeed pass on your youtube video here in Mt Shasta.
Mt Shasta has joined cities all over the America as an active "Transition Town"a WORKING partnership with community and nature. Your Message is a Genuine Call to the US citizens to ACT and get involved.
Thank you both for the "GREAT WORK" you are accomplishing in the GREAT STATE OF MICHIGAN. Allways, Atarah

Thanks for sending us positive energy, Atarah!love struck The demonstration went pretty well. It was organized by the Sierra Club and members from its different groups/teams (including Rochester ECOS), friends and passersby joined. We got good media coverage and a lot of honks in support... yay! Hopefully, we encouraged many to take a stand against offshore drilling and in favor of clean renewable energy!

Below is an article about the demo:
