Valley of the Moon

If you could not get to the Joshua Tree Annual Car Camp; then come to a mini Joshua Tree at the Valley of the Moon.

http://www.mountainproject.com/v/valley-of-the-moon/105946815

A miniature version of Joshua Tree right at the border between San Diego and Imperial Counties. Also on the border of Mexico! Higher elevation keeps this area slightly cooler than close-by desert areas. A mix of sport and trad routes with an emphasis on sport. See Dave Kennedy's guide for more detailed information.

We will meet at the parking lot of Mission Valley Mall on the Macy's side by Bennigan's. We can car pool from there. Will need some 4WD vehicles to cart everyone out there.

This is my first event on Meetup. I have a Raptor (4x4 truck) and can fit 4 others. I'll bring tow straps. I hope we hit some easier routes, because leading 10 is definitely at the upper edge of my ability. I'll bring ropes, draws, and some trad gear for anchoring just in case.

From what the description to Valley of the Moon says, we need 4WD vehicles with ground clearance meaning Jeeps or Trucks. I have a truck and can take 3 people with me. Does anyone else have a truck? We are still meeting next to Bennigan's around 7:00am. Sorry Eric, I am not sure your Subuaru will make it. From everyone tells me, you need ground clearance.

If you have a high clearance vehicle, you should be able to make it. I was hoping to take my Frontier out last time I went, but the clearance was about 4" short, no 4WD and I didn't have a posi-track in the back end, otherwise, I would have made it.

Looks like there may be rain on Sunday. Keep an eye out for my postings. I will let you know if I cancel the event due to rain.

Hey guys, I have a 4x4 Honda Ridgeline. It may work.

Guys, I know the Subie won't make it...that's why I said I'd have to "curb it if it comes to gnarly 4x4"...but if we don't have enough truck space for the drive down I'm happy to take a few and we can figure it out from there. These are times when I wish I still had my Tacoma!

I agree with Peter - I've been out there twice and it does get pretty gnarly. I have a v8 grand Cherokee that should make it (with some scratches on the bottom)....

Hey guys, I can take up to three people in my Subaru but will have to curb it if it comes to gnarly 4x4. I'll be bringing a 70m rope, 15 or so draws and probably throw some gear in my pack as well. Looking forward to meeting some new people.

I am on the waiting list for J Tree so I'm not going to rsvp here but if J Tree doesn't work out I want to go on this trip.
