Sunday - Garden - K-rock

I'd like to get an idea of who's interested and preferences for Shelf vs. Garden. Please comment or email and we'll set a time and place by tonight or tomorrow.

UPDATE:

We'll be climbing on the East side of Kindergarten Rock.  Find and park at the South Lot.  We'll meet here.

If you're late or otherwise can't find us, hike north on the one-way road about 1/4 mile till directly beneath the big wall on your left.  Here, find the climber's trail on your left, across the road, which takes you up to the base of the wall.  We'll likely be somewhere on that main wall.

(This is known as the east face of the south summit of Kindergarten Rock.  It also has a north summit, but there's only maybe two climbs on the east face of the north summit.)

Hi Chris. Click "home" in the banner just below RCCS at the top of this page. Once on the home page, there are four tabs across the top. The first one is "Upcoming." The second one is "Suggested." Above these four tabs should be a link for "Suggest a meetup." Once you've completed a suggested event, it should show under the "Suggested" tab. Hope that helps.

So this week the weather sure looks best on Tuesday afternoon - sunny, warm. Thursday - not so good. Can any of you guys make Tuesday after work? Say 3pm?

    May 5, 2013

    • David M.

I can probably get out around 4:00 like last Tuesday

There are many high quality Muti-pitch routes in 11 mile canyon. The rock quality far surpasses anything in the Garden of the Gods. The routes I'm referring to range from 5.5 to 5.8 and are 2 to 3 pitches. I'd be willing to take two beginners. I need at least a weeks notice as my schedule is complicated.

I would be game. I have the gear and climb 5.10+ in the gym, but new to outdoor climbing.

David...Sunday 5/12/13 looks to be the best weather day. I know it's Mothers Day but if you're available....we can go to 11mile Canyon for some Muti Pitch Climbing. Let me know as soon as you can. [masked]

Glad you found the sun. On top of Montezuma felt 15 degrees warmer than New Era.

Yes, we waited just a little bit. We were the second and last group up. All 3 of us made the summit and rapped off.

Group size is getting kind of big!

Depending on how things go, later in the afternoon, I may take the group over to the west side climbs (west side of N or S gateway) for some easier routes, if necessary, or split up the group. We can decide tomorrow afternoon when we're there.

The plan is still to start at K-rock, and stay there at least till Lawrence arrives at 3:30.

Bring a rope if you have one; we'll get as many up as possible.

Dave and Lawrence, hoping you rope-guns can help lead some routes.

As much as I'd love to do Shelf this Sunday, there are a few folks that can only do the Garden, so let's go there so they can join, too. Also - we'll probably do a meetup at the Garden on Thursday afternoon. Several folks have expressed interest in Thursday or Friday. Thursday would be good to leave recovery time for the weekend.

Hi Jim, it looks like u don't need an amateur climber this Sunday so I guess I'll pass this time. I hope u have another beginner climber soon. I would really love to use my new gear :-). Have fun and be safe!

Jim, tomorrow afternoon on the east side of K Rock sounds good. Benilda, come out if you want to climb. We can set up a top rope on the first pitch of New Era for you to try.

Thursday afternoon also sounds good, like the Tuesday climb a few days ago.

As to the multipitch thing, there are multipitch routes in the Garden, none at Shelf. The Garden can be serious business, so while I'm fine with anyone doing this that's capable, I'd say we should perhaps have a multipitch day of its own. Off the top of my head, the ones that are mostly done in the Garden are New Era on K-rock, sometimes the second pitch of Skyline (loose block, be careful) or second pitches of Alligator or Diesel - not done very often - or P2 and P3 on West Point. Many routes in the Garden have multiple pitches, but they are not often done. Hence, the fixed pro has not been kept up, and there is more loose stuff. A bad combination. Perhaps some day we can put on a meetup that focuses on multipitch routes. Obviously the logistics makes it more difficult and we'd have to limit attendance and find leaders willing to pair up, but I think we can do it. Turkey Rock comes to mind as a pretty good place for this.

I've never climbed multi-pitch but would love to learn if you all don't mind..

    May 3, 2013

    Either one.
I want some moderate multi pitch route.

    May 3, 2013

I could do an afternoon climb in the Garden. I like Shelf...but not the drive.

Can we do a multi-pitch route somewhere?

I'm game! I just got my first ever rock climbing gear and I can't wait to use it :-). I don't know where Shelf located at but if I get an address I'm sure I'll find it. Thanks for the invite and I can't wait!! :-)

I could do Garden at 3:30. Also, I'm free thursday all day.
