Announcing a new Meetup for Rock Climbers of Colorado Springs!
What: Turkey Rocks
When: Wednesday, July 28,[masked]:30 AM
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Let?s do another overnight trip, climbing the gorgeous cracks of Turkey Rocks, but this time we'll be there mid-week and should about have the place to ourselves! The several turkey-related formations offer solid single and multi-pitch trad climbing on crystal-studded granite. They offer plenty of fine lines of both moderate and advanced climbing. This again is an event that I ask lead climbers in the group to please step up and contribute to the success of the event by offering to take others up the routes. There is plenty of opportunity here for top-roping. This is also a great place to get your first trad lead as the routes tend to be fairly vertical and well-protected. Please feel free to join us for either day, if you can?t be there for both days and don?t mind the drive. Please indicate in your rsvp whether or not you plan to stay the entire two days.
Please check the message board for a list of basic supplies necessary for the trip (we all forget something, once in a while).
We will meet at the Safeway at 3275 W. Colorado Ave. at 8:00 am. http://coloradospring...
. Look for my burgundy Dodge Stealth R/T in the outer parking lot to the east. This is a good place to leave vehicles overnight. But just in case, please don?t leave any valuables in your car. And as always, please bring cash for gas if riding with someone else.
From the Safeway we will head west on Colorado Ave and turn left on Ridge Rd and then right on US Hwy 24. Follow Hwy 24 west to Woodland Park. Take CO Hwy 67 north for 14 miles to Westcreek. Turn left at the sign for Westcreek and head west into Westcreek proper, following as the 68 turns to the south. After 0.8 miles, turn right at the fire station on Stump Rd (which is the continuation of County Rd 68). Follow for about 3 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 360 (Teller County Rd. 51). Follow this bumpy road for about 2.7 miles. Turn left at the sign for Turkey Rocks. We will look for campsites along this road, which passes the trail head for Turkey Rocks. This is wilderness camping ? bring plenty of water and pack everything out.
