The rock climbing season is upon us! Same spiel as last year. Post here if you are looking to carpool or partners the weekend - Saturday or Sunday. We are extending this partnering/carpooling thing to the Daks, New England or West Point, feel free to find post partners for wherever. Please state in your RSVP what you are looking to climb and which day you are looking to climb/carpool.

This meetup is to facilitate carpooling and/or partnering. There is no official group climbing, but we usually end up sharing ropes if top-roping and stopping in town for dinner/drinks after the climb (if majority goes to the Gunks). Please note that this is NOT an official rock climbing event and we are not organizing the event nor are responsible for anything other than helping our members to carpool and/or find partners.
Carpooling: If you are driving and are willing to give a ride to passengers, please post how many passengers you can take and from where. If you are looking for a ride please post that you are looking for a ride and from where. The passengers are encouraged to pick up all or the majority of the costs associated with driving (gas/tolls). We are not facilitating carpools, so passengers and drivers are responsible for contacting each other about rides.

Climbing Partners: If you are looking for a climbing partner, please state your climbing level and what kind of partner (TR, trad, lead, second etc.) you are looking for and what kind of gear you have. Please be honest about your experiences and skills.

Once you made desired arrangement (ride or partner) please post and update your RSVP accordingly. Have fun and climb safe!

Our meet and greet get-together for the fall season!

Come out climb with us and meet your fellow Rock and Ice climbers!

This will be a great opportunity to find out what this group is about, meet the other people in the group, and start making plans for outdoor climbing trips (local and abroad).
We would also like to hear inputs and suggestions from our members on how we can improve our meetups and as a community moving forward!

Food/drinks apres-climb will be at Bierocracy (12–23 Jackson Avenue (at 47th Road) LIC. You're welcome to join us here if you can't make it to our climbing.

First Timers, READ details before you RSVP. Where: The Cliffs at LIC, 11-11 44th Drive, Long Island City, NY

When: We usually climb between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. There is no strict start time and the organizer(s) tries their best to be there around 6:30 pm. We will pair off around 6:45ish and start climbing.

Transportation: Subway: E, M trains to 23rd St-Ely Ave (1/2 block from gym) 7, G train to Court Square (2 blocks from gym)* N, Q train to Queens Borough Plaza (10min walk) *Walk to the E & M track for those bad weather days Metro North & LIRR: From Grand Central take 7 train 3 stops From Penn Station take Uptown E train to Court Square

Cost/Discount: $26 Day­pass during the meetup. For monthly/yearly membership, the Initiation Fee (currently $99) is waived (no discount on monthly dues, for yearly membership please inquire with the Cliffs for discount). Just mention "Rock & Ice" at the front desk in order to receive your discount. Gear rental is FREE for first-timers ONLY (first-time visit to the facility). For Beginners, Climbing 101/Top-rope basic class is offered 50% Off. Must signup and pay in advance by calling the Cliffs ( http://lic.thecliffsclimbing.com/ )

How to meet us: After you checked-in, to the right of the front-desk, there's a sitting area. If you see a group of people in there that's probably us come and say hi. If you are running late or can't find the group, please leave a message in the Comments section.

Notice to Beginners: If you have never climbed before, we encourage you to take the Climbing 101 class there before attending the meetup. You get a 50% discount if you do it the same day as the meetup but has to be scheduled in advance with them. This will also cover your day pass + gear for the day. Unfortunately, we can't teach you how to belay or let you try to belay at the gym if you are not belay certified yet. We leave the teaching to the experts. Check out Cliff's website for more details. What to wear - comfortable clothes (think yoga).
