Walk at West Haverstraws' Beautiful Parks Along the Hudson

 


Come enjoy another invigorating, moderate paced easy early spring walk at a few of W. Haverstraws' most scenic parks by the Hudson River. This will be a bout a 2 1/2  hour walk, approx 4-5 miles, on mainly level, paved paths at a moderate pace, with  breaks to take in all the sites. Do one, two or all three. We will visit Pecks Pond, The Haverstraw Bay County Park with often abundant wildlife ,including a recent pair of Bald Eagles!, sculptures and several 9/11 monuments and  Bowline Park with  gorgeous Hudson River views on either side.

 All you need are good, supportive walking shoes or sneakers(weather permitting!), WATER, snacks layers for the changeable weather and cameras for you shutterbugs!  Think warm and  DON’T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD THE NIGHT BEFORE!

 

Optional dinner or refreshments(approx 4:45-5) at the reputable and reasonably priced Lynchs Restaurant located at 79 S. Liberty Dr., Stony Point. [masked] for the first 25 to RSVP for dinner. Individual checks are available. Please bring cash to make check out quicker and easier for all and remember to add %30 to your tab to cover tax and group tip.  Thanks.

 Directions from Bowline Park to the restaurant are:  turn right out of the park onto Samsondale Rd.. Take that to the end and turn left onto Railroad ave.  Take that to the light at 9W and turn right.  Lynchs will be on your left in about .9 miles in a little strip mall across from TD bank and the old Mexican restaurant up on the hill and before Hogans Diner.   There is additional parking in the back and across the street too.  Check out their menu at http://www.idine.com/details.htm?merchantId=116268&menu=true


DIRECTIONS: Follow directions below to parking area by ball park on your left, immediately  after passing the W. Have. Village Hall and rec. center on your left, after turning into BOwline Rd.

From Route 9W North/South:

At the intersection of Route 9W and Railroad Avenue, turn east onto Railroad Avenue. Proceed .2 miles to the stop sign. Make a right onto Samsondale Avenue. Proceed .5 miles. The West Haverstraw Municipal Center is located on the left side of Samsondale Avenue.

From the Palisades Interstate Parkway Northbound:

Exit at #13 Haverstraw/Suffern. Turn left onto Thiells/Mt. Ivy Road. Proceed 1.8 miles. At light, make a right onto Suffern Lane/Railroad Avenue. Proceed 2.1 miles to the stop sign. Make a right onto Samsondale Avenue. Proceed .5 miles. The West Haverstraw Municipal Center is located on the left side of Samsondale Avenue.

From the Palisades Interstate Parkway Southbound:

Exit at #14 Willow Grove Road/Letchworth Village. Make a left onto Willow Grove Road/Filor’s Lane. Proceed 2.6 miles to light at the intersection of Route 9W. Make a right onto Route 9W South. Travel .5 miles to light. Make a left onto Railroad Avenue. Proceed 2.1 miles to the stop sign. Make a right onto Samsondale Avenue. Proceed .5 miles. The West Haverstraw Municipal Center is located on the left side of Samsondale Avenue.

    Hi. Ok. I'm on the notification list. If I go then dinner too if there is room.

    A friend of mine said that the pair of bald eagles will eventually leave when the fish leave. I don't know. I saw one flying around during the late fall season. They are attracted from the fish that are in the pond. The fish are attracted when the pond gets warmed up from the over-flow of water that is emitted from the Bowline plant. That does not happen often. Just a tidbit of information I heard.
