  •  Lets’ try it again!  Come join us for a special spring treat at another one of our most picturesque parks. (for hike details and dinner info scroll down)

A part of Rockefeller State Park, Rockwood Hall was the location of the  summer home of William Rockefeller, brother of John D. Rockefeller.  Frederick Law Olmsted designed this stunning landscape overlooking the Hudson River, with giant weeping beech trees and many other ornamental specimens. We'll be traveling along old carriage trails  just above the Hudson River, with sweeping views of the Tarrytown lighthouse, the TZ Bridge and Croton Point to the north.  The lulling sounds of passing trains just below, may accompany us part of the way. On thru a tranquil grove of rhododendrons along several brooks, we'll cross a few wood bridges and pick up the Old Croton Aqueduct Trailway. The trailway runs through Headless Horseman country, otherwise known as Sleepy Hollow. Here the trail passes by The Sleepy Hollow cemetery made famous in Washington Irving's stories and crosses the Pocantico River near the spot where the Headless Horseman scared Ichabod Crane. Owned and managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the trailway offers a scenic walk from northern Westchester County into New York City, or vice versa, following the path of the aqueduct that was once used to bring fresh water from the Croton Reservoir to New York City.  Along the way we'll see an  old ventilator shaft and possibly a weir chamber, used to spill off waste water during floods. After checking out the cemetery and the remains of a stone wall, we will pick up Peggys Way trail which will loop us back to the Croton Aqueduct, over several picturesque bridges, back over Rt 117. THis will take us back to Rockwood Hall, where we will enjoy the stunning landscape and remaining foundation of the 204 room mansion and one long last breathtaking view of the Hudson, from a higher vantage point. Don't miss this very special gem and our hunt for signs of spring!

This will be about 3 1/2- 4 hour hike including breaks at a moderate pace on carriage trails of mostly crushed gravel and dirt woods trails.  A few moderate inclines, otherwise, fairly easy terrain. Supportive, weather resistant hiking shoes or boots are recommended. WILL UPDATE TRAIL CONDITIONS WHEN NEARER IF NEED BE.  Bring walking poles if you need for the few inclines. Its’ always good to dress in layers for the changing seasons.

Bring WATER(a must), snacks and don't forget those cameras!  Inclement weather cancels. Always check the day of an event for any changes

Optional dinner after at the always accommodating El Dorado West Diner in Tarrytown at 460 S.Broadway  [masked] just 3.4 miles south on (9W) Broadway from the park. (for the first 30 to rsvp for dinner) Please answer the dinner rsvp which is an additional RSVP. Thanks and please remember to bring cash to make check out quicker and easier for all.  MEET IN PHELPS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL NORTHEAST PARKING LOT # 4

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
