Great day of AA. Thanks to Jaymen and Seth for making it over. Seth was well organized as both Axis. I managed to hold Russia, but will tweak game plan for next G1 assault.

Brand new to the group. Have never played that flavor of Axis and Allies (actually only played original flavor). Would this be an appropriate event for a novice with a lot of rust to attend? And would the 12-hour event require my attendance throughout, or can a player leave before the finish permitted without ruining the game?

Hi Dane, this will be my fourth A&A meetup and I encourage you to come for the whole thing. The people are friendly and helpful and there is a mix of skill from novice to veteran. I fall in the former category and would be happy to play alongside you, across from you, or split a power so we have plenty of time for discussion and strategy.

the most difficult thing about this game for most players is the time it take to play one game from start to finish. beyond that....its pretty simple to learn but hard to be good at. knowing the board and how units move accross it and keeping turn order in mind are the keys to being good (imo). the rest is just a game of risk on drugs.

I went ahead and RSVP'd. I'll change that if a more experienced player comes along and wants the spot I'm holding. I could still do the afternoon session.

thats great to see your RSVP, dont be overly concerned with experiance level. some of the games you have mentioned are much more difficult than this game. some of the mechanics in this game might seem kiddish to you from the view of those other games, for example, movemetn accross the seas only takes a turn or 3 at best and 1 sea unit like a destroyer can block movement of an entire fleet but those mechanics work well inside the game but "out side" of reality.

Sadly, it's looking like I won't be able to attend this one.
However, for those of you who don't know, the second edition of the global games was just released. My copy just came in the mail today from http://www.coolstuffinc.com. From there the games were only $58 each with free shipping.
If you are interested, I highly recommend you pick it up. If nothing else, there are new sculpts for the Anzac and Italians, and all the nations have their own AA gun sculpts.

thanks for the info...i am debating about buying these revised sets but it sounds like yu are pleased with what they changed for the price you picked it up for?

      September 26, 2012

    • Jonathan J.

Yeah, I never was able to buy the first edition of the Europe half, so I was going to buy that regardless. The new units, especially the individualized AA guns sold me on picking up the new version of Pacific as well. Also, there is a small change in the Pacific map - the two Canadian territories are now one territory.

Seth, I can't make it on the 6th, I'll be out of town, so looks like you will face down the wrath of Dave and Chris without me. Good luck!

    September 25, 2012

  • Seth

Alrighty, so this time around as the Axis I'm going to face Dave's Europe allies, including his infamously stout Russian turtle. Can Dave's Soviet turtle survive the G1 Barbarossa or will the Axis might smash itself against the rocks and recede into oblivion? Chris if you're up for it, Dave wanted you as an allied partner in the pacific. Me, I'll likely go solo unless Dallan or Bryan come out this time around.
