Officers Gulch Ice Climbing

Sorry about the late notice, but a last minute change in weather has put a stop to my weekend plans. Good thing is that you can always climb ice!

The Officers Gulch area is in good shape right now and devoid of avalanche danger, so let's go jump on a couple routes. Officers Gulch offers a range of difficulties from brittle WI5 pillars to low angle WI2 slabs as well as a few mixed lines. We'll go explore and find something fun, possibly visiting the classics like "The Shroud" or "Tony's Nightmare".

This is OK for a beginner area, but you must at least have some multi pitch rock climbing experience and be resilient to cold temperatures if you would like to attend.

Required Equipment:

- Your winter layering and dayhiking arsenal
- HELMET!!!!
- Climbing harness
- Two locking carabiners and belay device
- Rigid mountaineering boots
- Crampons
- Ice tools

I'll be coming from Nederland, so we can meet at the Safeway in Idaho Springs. See you at the crag!

Good times! We managed to climb a couple pitches on Tony's Nightmare and climb The Shroud as well. Solid day.

If you guys ever climb this area again, I'd love to attend. I live just 2 miles away, at Copper Mtn., and I've climbed the 3 Tiers route on top rope, but that's the extent of my ice climbing. I do climb rock, so am versed in rock anchors, knots, rope management, belay technique, etc., and have lots of rock gear, as well as winter mountaineering boots and crampons. What I lack is ice tools, ice screws, and mainly, instruction.

Aaron - Bummer your wife put the veto on it! Hope to see you out another time.

I think 4 people is enough for now. If anyone else would like to join in, we will need another leader. (Not sure if any of you are planning on leading ice)

Text me at[masked] to get in touch this evening.
