Huron Peak

Thommy Boy would like to get this mountain before winter gets here.  Huron Peak is a bit of a drive but not considered a difficult mountain.  Right now the extended forecast looks promising but I'll keep an eye on it.  The central mountains seemed to get some snow this past weekend so we will likely encounter a fair amount of snow but you can leave your snowshoes at home!  I'll have gaiters and microspikes along with several warm layers.  Will probaby coordinate the rest by posting messages here if anyone joins us.

I'm thinking about doing this but don't understand what time people are meeting. Can someone please clarify what time you'd leave the Denver area or Wooly Mammoth lot?

ilene, we are waiting for a confirmation from MaRk, concerning weather, etc., before an exact time is set. (please see one of the strings below in a conversation about this...:)

What if I can't make it? Mark will you forgive me?

Leonard, if I am going to haul my sorry butt up that peak in the snow, you better not bail. You are only allowed to reduce the # of pushups to 50 instead of 100. That is it. :/)

Forecast continues to look sunny all weekend, potentially a bit windy, so be prepared for that. Don't forget hat, gloves, etc., along with gaiters and microspikes if you have them. With everyone heading up from Denver in the morning, how about everyone meet at the Wooly Mammoth Lot at 5am across from the Conoco (except for Scott that will either come up to Frisco or picked up in Idaho Springs). Leonard can take 3 and Thom can take 3. I'll then meet everyone just off I-70 by Frisco at 6am. We should be to the trailhead shortly after 8am and start no later than 8:30am. Let me know if that doesn't work for someone. My cell is[masked] if anything comes up! If someone is running late in the morning definitely let me know.

I can be in Idaho Springs at 515am to meet those coming from Denver. Leonard - can you drop on by?

Scott, as long as the sky is not falling at work and I dont have a full truck. I might have someone coming with me from Denver but if they dont go I will pick u up

Was hoping to get my 40th 14er summit before the end of this year...this sounds perfect! What time are you planning on leaving for the trail head from Silverthorne? I'm debating whether I'd be up for meeting you in the morning or possibly staying in Silverthorne Friday night. Is anyone else driving from Denver in the morning?

    October 16, 2012

  • Maddie P.

Hey! Are you guys planning to head out there Friday night or early Saturday morning?

I was most likely heading up to Silverthorne on Friday evening. You could of course camp or head to say, Leadville, if you'd like and perhaps others would join ya. If we get a good weather day I don't think we necessarily need a really early start in October. I could house a couple in Silverthorne if anyone thinks that would be helpful.

May be up for it - will have to talk to better half about the schedule. I was on Holy Cross last weekend - top 1000 feet was snowy and slick... I used spikes and wished I had brought gaiters
