Avalanche Danger:  TBD

Estimated Start Time: 8:00 AM

Estimated Finish Time: ?

Special Gear: Microspikes and Gaiters.  Floatation and ice axe TBD.

Group dynamics (Thanks BobbyFinn!):  We will all stick together.  Decisions will be group decisions.  If we decide to split up, the minimum group size will be 2 and all will have to agree to split.

Where to Eat After:  TBD

About Me:  I am not a guide, nor do I see myself as being a “leader” on the hikes/climbs I post.  I am simply looking for partners around my same skill level (beginner to border-line intermediate) to hike with.  OR, maybe someone who is more advanced, but wants to hike/climb the peak scheduled.  My estimated times are based off Roach’s “Roach Point System” (when available).  I have found this to be right on for me.  My goal is to eventually hit 1,000 ft. per hour, and I do try to push it an hour at a time before rest stops.  The first hour is always the worst for me!

Let’s climb!

Winter. Snow. Gale force winds. Great times in the Colorado high country.

Snow! Let me preface my response by saying - I had a blast in the snow! 6 showed up, w/ me being quite late unfortunately. The others were kind enough to wait for me, although I left messages to get started w/out me & have fun! Bloody cold. Breaking out of treeline, instant blowing snow. Felt like I was on a amusement park ride at times as the ground appeared to be moving in all directions. Snow varied, from calf deep to knee deep +. 2 of us made it to about 12,400 & called it. That ridge looked LONNGG in that weather & we were already frozen. I wouldn't trade this experience - good for me to hike up that type of snow (without snowshoes). I have a better understanding now of how physically challenging it is. The weather, this is my second climb in a row where I have been pounded by winter, but I had fun! Really wanted a pair of skis today! Looking forward to hearing how the other 4 did. As I was driving home a big grey cloud was rolling in. Cheers!

I'm up for carpooling from Woolly Mammoth lot. Typically I meet folks at Section BB across from the Conoco station. Probably want to leave at 6 AM if hike starts at 8 AM - would give enough time to get there, food/drink/tree, gear up and start hiking. I'm driving a dark blue Toyota 4Runner with a 14ers.com sticker on the back glass. Anyone else interested in carpooling?

Hi James - sounds good I'll keep an eye out for your Jeep. If anyone else wants to carpool, let's meet at the above mentioned location at 6 AM and we'll depart soon after. Everyone bring warm clothes - wind chill of minus 19. Good times!

      December 25, 2012

    • Zach

I'll plan to meet you both there at 6. I'm rsvp'd through the scramblers group

Carpool from the Wooly Mammoth lot in Morrison, leaving 6-6:30?

    December 24, 2012

  • Mindy

P.S. we have a group of 10 total that have signed up. If you can't make it, please cancel your RSVP.

This meetup is confirmed.... sounds like snowshoes are up to each of you, as well as an axe. I will not be participating in carpool due to other plans, so please schedule at will. Hike commences at 8:00 AM from TH. See you all soon!

Mindy - weather forecast for the week for Hoosier Ridge - getting snow this week for sure. Wednesday doesn't look too bad yet but still a few days out so we'll see about winds. Depending on the decision, who wants to carpool from Denver?

    December 23, 2012

  • Mindy

Good morning everyone. I will be waiting until Monday re: making my final plan on this one (waiting to see weather of course). I am also unsure about my participation in a carpool at this point, as I may be heading on to Salida after. The route I published is my goal, so please review the TRIP REPORT that I included that shows the path to all 3 peaks (if weather allows). If you have something else in mind, you are on your own. Have a great weekend everyone!

Don't know if anyone would be interested, but time/weather permitting I'd like to bag Silverheels as well...
