New Meetup: Full Moon - Member's Choice Hike

Announcing a new Meetup for Colorado 14ers!

What: Full Moon - Member's Choice Hike

When: Tuesday, August 24,[masked]:00 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Last minute. In the middle of the week. In the middle of the night??!?

Testing interest for a special hike, starting at dusk, to enjoy the moon at the peak of its cycle.

The moon will be at 99.7% illumination, rising at 7:30 PM and setting at 7:19 AM. As long as the weather is good, it should be a total spectacle above the treeline on one of our majestic peaks. The date is flexible, it will be "in condition" for the next couple days after the 24th, so that is always possible. Remember that we will be leaving in the EVENING on the day posted, so don't get confused when making an RSVP. Starting time is also flexible. It would be cool to catch a sunrise from the summit. We could adjust the time to do that as well.

Normally I would choose a location, but I'm going to leave this one up in the air. With your RSVP please include a peak that you would like to hike and the date that you are available. I'm pretty burned out on the front range, but I think something in the Sawatch could be good. Think class 1-3 with lots of hiking above treeline. We could do a couple peaks as well or a 13er. It doesn't matter. A long traverse would be PERFECT.

As far as equipment goes, make sure to bring good layers since it will be cold at night, and a headlamp will be absolutely crucial, although for part of the hike we will actually be able to turn them off and walk under the moonlit sky!
