An Introduction to AngularJS

  • June 4, 2013 · 6:30 PM

You've heard a lot about AngularJS, now it's time to take a closer look at what it is, how it's different from other JavaScript Frameworks, and how to get started using this robust new client-side framework.

We'll have an introductory overview of AngularJS, and a Q&A session where you can ask questions you might have about AngularJS and how to incorporate it into your applications.

Thanks so much Rich; you really helped gel some thing in my mind about AngularJS!

Any chance you'll post the slides please?

    • Rich B.

Haha, good idea Tom. Should have the GitHub Project and slides up soon.

I'll be adding an artifact page to our Meetup page as well that aggregates information from our meetings

Very good. Liked the food and drinks. Rich did a great job. My only complaint was that he probably ought to have a more definite end to the presentation. Plan to get to a certain point --say covering the 4 basic elements-- and bring it to an end. If people want to ask questions and talk, they can stay as long as they want. Also, start more on time.

A suggestion for someone to follow is Brad Green on Google Plus, he's the Engineering Director at Google and has been putting out a lot of great info on angularjs lately. https://plus.google.com/112439678898563138768/posts

Great job last night. Looking forward to the next one. I'm happy to contribute if anything is needed.

Thanks Sean... if you have any ideas for the next meetup topic let me know

I enjoyed the talk and will be back for more. I've been collecting links to interesting Angular stuff at http://mattreyuk.tumblr.com/tagged/angular If you're just starting out, the tutorial on the angularjs.org site is pretty good

    June 5, 2013

    • Rich B.

Nice Matt, we should all definitely check it out

      June 6, 2013

  • Jon G.

Rich gave a great introduction to AngularJS and kept the discussion very interactive and amusing. Lots of great questions from the group too - all around very worthwhile. I'll definitely be back!

Rich I can't figure out, sharp guy and yet he still is willing to impart his knowledge free of charge. Seems suspect to me. Not sure what his angle is, altruism? Just a smart and nice guy, unlikely.

Second that, great job Rich and folks who asked questions and offered answers. I'm starting to think the number of slides you get through is inverse to the actual value received by the audience :)

Please bring demos of AngularJS. I am very interested in IoT ( Internet of Things ) . Does AngularJS fit in with that ?

Meetup changed their UI, sorry for the noise. I meant for it to go next to my name in the sidebar. Anyway, I decided to go after all. Looking forward to the meetup!

Looking forward meeting others that love AngularJS!

Yea and I love it. Currently I'm working on a project for the BBC with AngularJS. I gave a talk on AngularsJS at the Denver Ruby on Rails user group a while back (here is the code https://github.com/dan...). My first app was http://builtwith.angu... and I just started (http://watchmelater.n... which is not ready for prime time at all...). And you?

Does AJS apply to solutions for IOT ? ( Internet of Things )

    May 7, 2013

    • Tom B.

I guess one can use AngularJS the same way as many use PHP; templating, data binding, & of course JavaScript itself can do other programmy things. Except you can use AngularJS inside the browser; doesn't need LAMP.

      May 8, 2013

  • David J.

I'll be there. Using Angular now and I love it!

    May 6, 2013

Hopefully the location isn't going to be in the southern area of Denver and the meeting right after rush hour! (Westminster here)

    May 6, 2013

Good point, and thank you for the feedback. The location we're looking at has adequate parking, and hosts some other large Meetup groups. We'll do our best to make things as accommodating as possible.

Looking at expanding my ASP MVC skills to enable a more client side centric dev model to enable speedier single source cross platform mobile app development. Just getting into AngularJS.

If you need a location, I can usually host at Galvanize for free. Just need to know a date for sure and check out what rooms are available. They have great AV equipment and a bar, so it tends to be a really good location.

    May 6, 2013

    • Rich B.

Hey Cory, thanks for joining up. I've got a great location that I'll be announcing later this evening, but definitely want to keep Galvanize on the radar for future meetings. Thanks for helping out!

      May 6, 2013

  • Benjamin W.

Looking forward to hearing about your location; how many attendees are there, at-present.

    May 6, 2013

    • Rich B.

We've got 25 confirmed and I'll be making an announcement about our location later this evening. Hope you can make it!

Tuesdays don't work for me. :(

    May 5, 2013

    • Rich B.

That's too bad Solomon. We're not set on Tuesday as a recurring date for the meeting, so we hope you can make it to the next meeting. In the meantime, we'll make sure to post the meeting artifacts online so you can keep tabs on what we discussed.
