Map & Compass

There's another Orienteering adventure in February.

The Dames who've joined me over the past few treks have really picked up the skills quickly.

So this one's going to be less of a "teaching" thing and more of a "doing."

If you've done it before and want to do it again, welcome!

If you've never done it before, welcome as well. I'll do my best to help you figure it all out.

Thanks Dames! As always, it was great fun; especially the "off trail" portions!

Great going, Dames! Everyone did well sorting out how to get where, even with multiple jaunts off-trail.

One last www question, what time does the event end?

    January 29, 2014

    • Lori

Kim, Can't give you a specific time; depends on how long it takes us to find all the "flags" on the route. We've finished as early as 1 p.m. and as late as 3 p.m.

Is the map on line somewhere?

    January 29, 2014

    • Kristin C.

You get the map there, it is specifically marked for the event.

Hey all. Wanted to point out that you'll get the most out of this if you have a) a map (the one specific to the event) and b) a compass (a physical one, versus a phone app). The folks who host the event provide the map; it's $5. They'll also rent a compass for $1. You can share either (or both) with a fellow Dame. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks to Scout for suggesting I point this out!

I've never done this. How long is the hike, and do I need a standalone compass or will the one on my phone do?

    January 26, 2014

    • Lori

Hi, Bernie! You can rent a compass at the event for $1. You'll want to have a "real" compass so you can apply it to the map, etc.
