Memorial Day weekend Camping and Hiking

Let's spend Memorial Day weekend at the beach! Carolina Beach state park is on the North Carolina coast, 10 miles south of Wilmington, NC.

www.ncparks.gov

It has a marina, a secluded camping area, and is walking distance from the beach.  Also close by (for anyone that is interested) is the Fort Fisher historical site, aquarium,  and Bald Head Island and lighthouse is a short ferry ride away.

There are 6 miles of trails to hike and we will walk the beach and get sand between our toes .

The camping fees are $20 per night and each campsite is big enough for 5 tents (We can split the cost).  Each campsite has a grill and a graveled parking area large enough for 2 vehicles - so this is car camping (no backpacks needed).  We will camp Saturday and Sunday night. Bring your tent, sleeping bag, camping gear, food, etc.  Fabs has extra camping gear to lend (2 one person tents and 1 two person tent, 3 sleeping bags, and 1 sleep pads), so place a note in the comments for what you would like to borrow.   For those interested we will have dinner at a local seafood restaurant.

We will meet at the Roses Parking Lot.  The drive normally takes 4 hours, but this will be Memorial Day weekend, so we may hit some traffic close to Carolina Beach.

So bring your smiles and positive attitudes, we will have fun!

Great weekend of sun, laughs, camaradie, nature and lots of heat (Holiday Inn - lol). Enjoyed meeting Smurfette's Wilmington friends and look forward to seeing them again soon. Nice to also meet the Lady Trailblazers - what a spread at the potluck! Thank you Barbara for organizing. Great job!

It was wonderful being with the Dames again and having some of them share my first camping trip. Wendy is an Awesome camper and helped me so much! It was nice meeting the Lady Trailblazers at the potluck and the Nature Walk was interesting. I was surprised so many of my Wilmington friends came and visited with us, but I had been telling them the Dames were great, so I guess they came to see for themselves. They agree - the Dames are a great bunch of ladies! We had some challenges, but in true Dame form, we persevered, compromised and made it through. I had a wonderful time with everyone and am looking forward to my next camping trip.

Ladies- Happy Wednesday!! Hope you are enjoying this spectacular day. I have bought my own tent and reserved a site...wanted to let you know so I won't be needing to borrow any equipment (as far as I know). Also, didn't want to be a reason someone else would not be able to go (thinking I would need a spot on the site). My friend and I are looking forward to meeting all of you soon!!

Wendy, can I share a tent with you? If that spot is taken, do you still have the one-man tent available?
    Thanks

    February 17, 2012

  • Wendy B.

I will be bringing a large tent that will fit 1 more person if neccessary and i also borrowed a one man tent from marie. I will be bringing camping equipment such as stoves and grill and cooking gear which everyone is welcome to use. I have two small coolers if people need to use also. I am also looking into borrowing another grill for the trip. If you decide to use tent you will need your own mattress and sleeping bag. I don't have any extras. Looking foward to camping with everybody.
