WHEN: Saturdays at 5 PM to whenever.
WHERE: The third-floor food court of the Lloyd Center Mall, near the Orange Julius or (sometimes) the McDonalds. That's our home base and meeting place. Often after hanging around for a while waiting for people to show, we'll leave and go elsewhere to hang out and/or have dinner.
WHO: Female (or female-identified) furries. That's the point of the meet. But honestly, if you're a guy and want to come hang with us or just say hi, we're not going to shun you. We've had our share of husbands, boyfriends, or male friends join us, and it wasn't a big deal.
WHAT: Mostly talk. And draw. And eat. And work on crafty things. And talk. And look at stuff. And talk.
WHY: This is a little harder to answer. We started this meet on the premise that local furs and furmeets are predominantly male, and that female furs would enjoy hanging out with a group of other females, just for a change of pace. It was also meant to be an outreach to female furs who aren't really active in the local furry scene. We speculated that some female furs who wouldn't feel comfortable going to the other meets might be more comfortable hanging out with a group of females first.
So did our hypotheses prove true? Has our "experiment" been successful? Meh. We've had quite a few people attend since the meet started, but the core group of regulars (people who have actually attended more than once, and plan to attend again) is fairly small. Part of that might be due to the timing of the meet, and part of it might be due to the fact that it's, uh, in a mall.
We intended for the mall to be only a meeting place, not the location of the entire meet. But most of us aren't that familiar with the surrounding area, so we get stuck on the issue of where to go and what to do AFTER we leave the mall. Any suggestions about places to go or things to do would help. (Generally at least one of us has a car, so we're not necessarily bound to walking or Tri-Met.)
