The dynamic, diverse and service-centered Rotary Club of Capitol Hill draws members who live or work in DC, Maryland and Virginia. Since 2003, our members have represented the dynamic diversity of Capitol Hill and Washington, DC. Ranging from those in their 20's to 60's, more than half of our members are women and the members of our club represent numerous races and nationalities -- both from the United States and abroad. We have several members who are alumni of Rotary Foundation programs such as the Ambassadorial Scholars program, World Peace Fellows Program and Group Study Exchange Cultural Exchange program. The Rotary Club of Capitol Hill is one of three Rotary clubs in Washington, DC, and represents the highest ideals of Rotary International through its service-oriented programs both at home and abroad.
On Capitol Hill, our club promotes projects that fight hunger and encourage literacy. Our members regularly serve dinner at a homeless shelter for women, provide books for local elementary school libraries, and tutor students in schools. Annually, the club provides dictionaries for every third grade public school student on Capitol Hill.
The club also has active programs supporting the students of Gallaudet University, the foremost University in the world for deaf and hearing impaired individuals. Drawing from the diverse international experiences of its members, the club supports projects abroad that promote health and education. Through the support of the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill, a water/sanitation system has been developed where one did not exist in the Chiquitano Region of Bolivia, ensuring clean water for hundreds of children, women and men throughout the region.
In addition, the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill supported a project in Mali, which expanded community level access to the prevention and treatment of malaria - one of the leading causes of sickness and death throughout Africa. We are supporting the Basra, Iraq Prosthetics Project, a successful Rotary project to provide Basra Prosthetics Centre with the needed medical supplies, equipment and training as well as with artificial limbs for those in need in the region.
We invite you to visit our regular club meetings, and experience the energy and commitment of the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill. We regularly welcome visitors from other parts of the United States and from around the world. We look forward to seeing you soon.
