I returned to Texas from Washington D.C. in 2005; retired in 2009. Though my career was in Labor Relations I also taught ESOL evenings for the Fairfax ISD. My interest in writing by piqued when studying the Beatnik poets in Marin County.
My absolute favorite author is Loren Eiseley, who brought science and artifacts to life with his words. His essays take my breath away!! Of course Shakespeare is at the top of my list along with Arthur C. Clark and D. H. Lawrence.
I am a member of the Baca Writing Club in Round Rock.
I truly enjoy writing poetry and fiction. I have been doing some memoir work with my current writing group and am an off-and-on journal writer. Reading: almost anything!!! I just finished "When Women Were Birds" and am about to read Sea Road and The Snow Child (novels for my two book clubs).
Through Meetup.
My treat is a cup of Bat City Blend coffee and a good book!!!!!

Thanks for the invitation for chili dinner for Friday! Can I bring salad or dessert?
Sandy, thanks for your note; I really want to spend some more time with the group, also the book club. I am inundated with the Master Naturalist class activities until June but when I get my head up again I'm looking forward to more fun! Ha!
Enjoyed meeting you yesterday.... Looks like many of our interests overlap. Looking forward to more!
Thank you Sandy, I enjoyed meeting you too.
Thanks again Sandy for doing such a great job at the Book Club. I am always in awe of you. Kay
Sandy, thank you for the welcome. I may not get the whole book read, but I want to come and meet people anyway. My other book club reads some really heavy psychological stuff, so I'll welcome some lighter things, as well. Kay Wilemon
I'm sorry to say it, but I've come down with a cold, so I won't be coming to the book group today. Too bad, too, because I'd finished the book and was looking forward to discussing it. Looking forward to seeing y'all next time.
Thanks for the welcome Sandy. I'm hoping to meet you and others from the group soon. The kayaking sounds great but I can't make it because of work. Hopefully I can meet up with the group at a weekend activity very soon!
Hi Sandy,
I am fairly new here to Austin myself, trying to make new friends. I am still waiting on the book from my library. Have you thought of having the meetings in members homes? My e-mail address is [masked] so you can keep me posted.
