Reach the Beach

THIS IS NOT A BOB SPONSORED RIDE

This is a placeholder for anybody who would like to sign up for the ride and join the BoB team.

There are several start locations for this ride and I am riding from Newberg.

There is an early bird discount on registration before Feb. 15th - so get on it :)

http://action.lung.org/goto/BOB

NOTE: There is a $100 minimum fundraising requirement.

Here is what the organizers have to say about the ride: Reach the Beach is the official start of the Oregon cycling season! Choose from four routes of varying distances (100, 80, 55, or 28 miles) for a gorgeous tour of the Oregon countryside. Start dreaming of that blissful moment when you roll into Pacific City and sink your toes in the sand at the finish line beach party.

It was truly awful weather for a good while after about Sheridan but a great ride nonetheless

Enjoyed the ride despite the rain and wind!

This is the 1st time doing Reach the Beach and I did the 28 miles. Marlene stated that the course was pretty flat and that sure is not the case. I've done longer rides and this by far to me was the hardest because of so many hills. Angela even posted about what the terrain was like, but don't know if she did the ride as a beginner I would think it would be tough.

    May 19, 2013

    • Marlene

Sorry you found the ride tough. It is all relative to your experience level. Just keep on riding and some day you will find this rose easy. The weather made the ride tough. It took me a lot longer to finish than in the past.

What a ride cold wet and windy. But we made it it was great riding with Andy and Dave as well as Don. Not the rtb I have done the weather was no fun.

Remember to dress for rain. The chance of showers is 50%+ = we will get rained on.

I'll be starting from Newberg also. Maybe see you there.

Might I suggest we all tie orange ribbon to our bikes so we can find each other en route. If you see orange ribbon go introduce yourself. See you on the ride.

Hi Dawnmarie! Thanks for getting back to me. What time should we all meet at the High School? Maybe like 7:00 or 7:30? What works for everyone.

      May 13, 2013

    • Dawnmarie

The ride start time is between 8-9am. Maybe we should meet around 7:45. I'm looking forward to Saturay!

Hi tom, I hope you and the family are doing well. If you are still able to join us how should we plan on meeting at the High School and what time is the group thinking?

Hi- I just found out about this today and I am interested in joining the team... Is it too late? I am trying to train for the Tour De Hood and make some friends along the way. I would probably have a ride situated on the way back. Would love to get involved! Thinking about the 55 or 88 (this is my first big ride though)

You are welcome on the team. You arr the only one who knows if you have what it takes to ride 80 or if the shorter distance would be better. Very few people ride back from the beach. You can either have someone pick you up or there are busses who will take yiu back to where you started. There is a lot of information on the official web site. Hope this helps - feel free to send me an email if you have more questions.

This ride is coming up soon and I am getting excited. I have done the full century and the shorter one from Newberg. I don't like hills so the Newberg start is perfect for me - I arrive tired, but not exhausted at the beach :) For me this is a fun and social ride. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Want to do the shortest ride - 28 - as I am a very beginner. Can you provide some details of this tranche will be steep territory or other not suitable for a beginner?

    February 6, 2013

    • Marlene

You will do fine on the 28 mile route - just ride and have fun.

I will post some training rides on the west side soon. It would be great to train with a few others that are doing the 100 miles. This will be my 4th its a great ride better with a group.

@ Andy I have driver and truck with racks we should be able to work out a ride home. Should have room for one more rider. I am not planing an overnight at the moment.

    February 11, 2013

    • Luis M.

Cool David it would be nice to get a small group together and ride in a group drafting and pulling.

      February 14, 2013

    • Andy C.

Luis. I live close in NE Portland. I have just started training again, riding out to Rocky Butte and back. I would be willing to drive though. Andy

Hello all. I just signed up for the century and am wondering if anyone has a ride back with room for me and my bike. I have a vehicle and big bike rack, but i'm not driving, obviously.

    Looking forward to it.

For those of you unsure about whether to do 100 miles or 75 miles, here's a look at the first 25 miles, which contains the bulk of the climbs (starring the indefatigable JC). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GHN7YfhvuA

i've signed up for the 100 miler, i'm sure i'll be slow, but look forward to the challange.

I rode the 25 last year and am interested in riding either the 25 or 55 this year, but need a shuttle and/or a house share in pacific city. Please let me know if you are interested in talking more about this.
