White Salmon, Lyle, Klickitat, Glenwood, BZ Corner, White Salmon 91 Miles

This is truly one of the great rides in the Gorge.  Wonderful views, high speed downhill's, low to no traffic, good roads and we are going to have a SAG vehicle. Please note the there will need to be a donation for gas for the SAG.  This should be $3 to $4 depending on how many sign up.  Lunch will be in Glenwood and you can eat in a restaurant or pack a cooler for the SAG vehicle.

This is anything but an easy ride but if you play it smart an intermediate rider can make this ride much easier by taking advantage of the SAG vehicle and get a ride from Klickitat to the top of the hill and start riding again.  This would be from about mile 26 to mile 35.  This would take out the hardest climb in the ride which is 3 miles of 6 to 8% grade.  Using a SAG is sacrilege to a hard core biker but if you are having trouble do the right thing.

This ride is meant to be social but hard and very rewarding because of the wonderful area we will be in.  Picture taking is encouraged along with stops just to enjoy everything.  Needless to say no one gets dropped and I will be sweep making sure everyone makes it.

Ride Difficulty C/D - 4 with three miles of 8%.

Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Represent us well!

Someone left a white PI jacket in my car. Donated to Goodwill, if I don't hear a claim within a week. :-)

This ride did not disappoint and was all and more than last year's trek. First off NO SAG ride!!
Enjoyed riding with everyone especially those that were encouraging, Roy, Joseph, Dave, Kent, Max and Eric. You don't get through a ride like this without people like this, constant sweeping and of course dependable SAG support - thank you Barbara so much. Special thanks to Carolyn Jen and Paul Johnston for the "hill training" and "finding the "MAGIC" in the hills. This for me is the highlight of the riding season. It's a challenge, the views are spectacular, the people are great... and it's well supported. You out-did yourself Eric, bravo!!

One of the most challenging rides I've done in a while and on the record as one of the most gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this ride with us Eric, thanks Barbara for your SAG wagon assistance, and thanks Diana and Vest for making me go in the first place. Great ride everyone!

Physically challenging, socially engaging, surrounded by the beauty of the pacific northwest...the day was awesome. Thanks to everyone! Eric, Barbara, the water donors and a great group of riders.

The BZ-Glenwood Hwy was an excellent choice for the back half of the ride. Thank you Barbara for driving the sag wagon!

Well, this is without a doubt the most difficult ride I have ever done, it is also the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen! Well worth the effort. Thanks to Eric for planning this ride and for waiting for us stragglers in back and encouraging us on to the finish. I could not and would not have done it without you!

Gurgling rivers to ride beside, deep ravines with steep rocky sides, rolling country side, forests and hills with Mt. Adams looming close around many a corner. Lots of miles and climbing. Many thanks to those who let me draft when the strong headwinds hit and for the extra water I "borrowed" to see me through. You are a great group to ride with! Special thanks to Eric for sweeping and to Barbara for SAG support.

Great ride ... awesome views ... fabulous people. And most of best SAG support ... I wouldn't have made it without the water. Thank you Barbara. And thank you Eric for scheduling AND for sweeping me. Now ... who didn't let me ride in SAG? No confessions needed, I'm glad I finished (& that my sofa is soft).

Does anyone have an open seat from L & C park to the start point. Max will be taking my bike up to the start but has a full load of riders from L & C. Please text me if you have space (I can make myself small) for one body, thanks,[masked]-1259. Will meet up with you by 6:45am.

Look at it on the bright side: You won't be listening to me whine on the climbs. I will be laying floor while you suffer.

    All:

Barbara has volunteered to drive as SAG for us. Please prep your 'care package' that will contain water, food, energy supplements, tubes, etc. These will be placed in the SUV. Please keep the care package small since we will need to take care of 20 people. The SUV can accommodate 4 cyclists only @ any one time.

Carol I'll be riding SAG for part of the ride .... just to keep Barbara company ... wouldn't want her to get bored or feel lonely. :-)

Any guess as to about how many hours this will take? Just need to know for some family plans later in the day

    May 19, 2014

    • Doak K.

Hi Jess, this ride will take about 6 hours riding time, and 2 hours of breaks....I might be a little under on the estimates, but it's pretty much an all day deal.

Lori and I will be driving from Vancouver so we'll also by-pass L&C and meet the group at Rhinegarten Park.

  • Kent

For those of us carpooling to White Salmon where do we meet? Rhinegarten Park?

    May 20, 2014

    • Eric J W.

Rhinegarten Park is correct. There is lots of street parking all around the park, most of us will be on the North Side.

      May 21, 2014

  • Michael C.

If anyone is carpooling from the Westside (Beaverton/Aloha/Hillsboro/Washington Square) I'd like to bike share and can help with gas money. Text/call me,[masked]-1259. Thanks

Anyone want to carpool from the east side?

    May 20, 2014

    • Randy R.

That sounds great to me. Where do you want to meet?
