Max says....and I agree...with the below:

The pass is cleared (as per ODOT) and available for cyclists ONLY

Several BoBers have done this route & *everyone* vouches that this is one of the best bike rides in the US of A.

The climb is consistent but not steep. You will need to be acclimatized to the altitude though (Max elev: ~5400ft). But not a huge deal imo. The views are phenomenal. You can ride up to the Dee Wright Observatory and turn back; or ride all the way to the gate and back. (IMO the ride to0 the gate & back is not anything worth it. No views, etc.)

Let's  meet @ Frys parking lot @ 6:30AM. We expect wheels rolling no later than 10:30AM from Sisters.

Starting Location: McDonalds, 1001 Railway Avenue, Sisters, Oregon

Wheels Rolling: 10:30AM

ETA: 3PM @ Sisters

a) Food & Water: I don't believe there is a place for water. Hence carry sufficient amounts as you deem fit. Our food plan is to 'pig out' @ McD or some where after the ride is over.

b) This is a NO REGROUP ride since there will be riders with varying abilities. Everyone rides @ their own pace; but please find a rider to ride with you & support you, so you are not alone. Or tag another rider.

The Routehttp://ridewithgps.com/trips/298866

Route Stats:  About 50 miles, 4500 feet of climbing. Out & back

Pace and terrain rating. Depends who shows up, but if you can manage 15mph on the flats, come on out, nobody gets dropped.

Type of ride: This is an intermediate level training ride. We will regroup at hilltops and major turns. If you are concerned about your ability to keep up, feel free to give it a shot, but be a good sport and be prepared to make your own way back if the pace is too much.

It can / will get COLD. Please bring additional layers. Stock up on food. There are no 'rest stops' on the way for water NOR food.

Weather Cancellation Policy. Only extreme weather will cancel this ride. Part of riding those century rides is dealing with lousy weather.

****************************************************

Mandatory for all riders.

Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Represent us well!

Have their ride in good working order and bring a flat kit & the right size spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out.

Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride, we will help if we can!

For those lurking, the McKenzie Pass is a world class bike ride. Ride it!

Sisters to Dee Wright summit is about 17 miles and 2600 feet of climbing. I rode 45 miles round trip there last weekend and I had just over 3000 feet of climbing recorded on my Garmin. The top of the pass isn't steep unless you drop down to the west snow gate.

I MIGHT be able to take a passenger.
