I usually do this route solo, but thought I would put it out there to see if there is any interest (or anyone crazy enough!)
Monday is scheduled to be hot, so hiding out in the forest seems like a good idea.
Home to Firelanes 10, 12 and 15 and Newton Road, the far Northern section of Forest Park is the most primitive and I think the prettiest. Not too many folks are out there except for hikers who make the drive to Newberry or go way down Skyline.
Great views of the Williamette, Mt. St. Helens and everything to the East abound as you top out on Firelane 15 with only the powerlines to mar things a bit. The ascent up Firelane 12 is about the most serene place I've been in FP with sunbeams breaking through as you climb past the towering trees. The descent down both is a screamer.
This ride hits the 3 firelanes above and Newton Road which is 1/2 firelane, 1/2 fun singletrack.
Date: Monday, August 18
Time: 10am. Wheels up (or down) 10:15am
Duration: About 3 hrs
Speed: SLOW as it is mostly uphill!
Type of ride: Mountain Bike. Everyone rides their own pace uphill and we wait/gather at the top of each climb to catch our breath.
Mandatory for all riders: A good attitude in fair weather or foul, ease or adversity. Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. No headphones. No talking on cellphones while riding.
Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road, represent us well. All riders are responsible to have their gear in good working order and bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. Must be self-sufficient: bring enough food and water as needed, know your bike and how to fix basics.
