I don't own a car, so I cycle! :) I have a 2009 Schwinn World GS commuter bike that serves me well year around.
I joined soon after moving here in 2009 to get to make cycling friends and get to know the area.
I cycle for commuting nearly everyday for about 5 miles, but about three days a week I cycle about 10 - 15 miles to run errands. In 2011, I rode the 16 mile route for The Worst Day of the Year Ride at 7 mi/h, the 30 mile route for Petal Pedal at 12.2 mi/h, the 72 mile route for the 2011 Portland Century at 12 mi/h, and the 34.7 mile route (Big Dog) of the Tour de Lab at 10.4 mi/h.
The 72 mile route of the 2011 Portland Century although with commuting and getting lost, it was slightly more that 77 in total! Ha ha!
Right now I am training the 100 mile option for the Harvest Century. A mix of time in saddle and hill climbing would be great.
I prefer to start as close to my house in the Tanasbourne/Orenco Station area as possible due to not having a car and it takes forever to get anywhere by public trans.

Shannon,
Welcome to the Rogue Valley! To answer your question, Medford gets an average of 20" of rain a year and October is considered a transition month. December and January are historically the wettest months, but even then you'll see the sun occasionally. David

You go girl! I know the joys of riding a heavy bike---I commute on one, but ride a nice light road bike on weekends. The change makes me feel so STRONG! :) Welcome to OS!
