Melbourne Ruby

An evening of talks on Ruby and related topics, plus socialising, food and drinks.

This month's presenters include:

• Tim Moore: Embracing Capybara

• Daryl Moulder: A guide to upgrading to rails 4

•  Leif Eriksen: "This is it, this is the result", a talk on private gem servers

• Dougal MacPherson: Padrino – what is it and why would you use it

• Ivan Vanderbyl: Continuously Deploying ALL THE THINGS

All are welcome from 6pm, and proceedings will kick off properly from 6:30, and wrap up around 9pm. Please note the lift is still out of action at Inspire9, so use the stairs to get to level one via the entry in the eastern alley (further away from Richmond Train Station).

I'm happy to answer questions about Capybara that anyone has. Just get in touch via Twitter @tmoore.

Hey there, Are there any speakers yet. Not sure how this works. Is there a schedule???

    October 28, 2013

    • Pat A.

Hi Jason - there's certainly speakers, Mario and I will get things updated here in the next 24 hours. The schedule is generally as follows: rock up around 6pm, a bit of socialising, then at 6:30 we kick off the official proceedings, talk about what's been happening in the Ruby scene over the last month, people who are hiring have the opportunity to talk briefly about what roles they need filled, and then the speakers give their talks, and dinner arrives (usually pizza, though we're investigating other options) in amongst that. More socialising afterwards, and people usually leave around 9pm or so.

Right - I was down to do a talk at this one - but had it in my Calendar as the previous week (does anyone know how to tell Google Calendar to do a repeat event on the LAST Thursday of each month ?)

Regrettably, in order to save some cash, I'll be on a plane to Sydney during this session (the Thurs night flight being much cheaper than Friday morning flight for Railscamp).

So if anyone wants to hear all about Ansible as a provisioning tool, I'll be doing the beta version* of my talk at Railscamp, and then still putting my hand up to present v1.0 of the talk, now in November though !

(*I can also do the alpha version of my talk from Seat 14C on Jetstar flight, but seating - and leg room - for that talk would be very limited indeed)

Anyone looking to do a talk, I advise you to ping Mario or Pat.

    Mario, Pat - I suck, I'm sorry.
