Melbourne Ruby - Newbies night

This is a special ruby meetup we have organised particularly for those that are new to ruby and rails. We'll have a range of introductory 5 minute lightning talks, plus socialising, food and drinks.

Our ever-wonderful speakers and topics are:

• Gareth Townsend - 'inject is for wizards and other enumerables'

• Darcy Laycock - Learning by Doing: The stuff I learnt by screwing up

• Natasha Postolovski - Learning to Love Tests

• Rhiana Heath - Looking back on what I learned during my first year of coding

• Jared Shay - The hardest code I now understand

• Trung Lê - Learning about Ruby modules

The food is sponsored by EnvatoLookahead Search and Redbubble, the drinks by Zendesk, and the space by Inspire9.

Rock up from 6pm for some early chatter, we'll kick the proceedings off properly around 6:30, hear from our presenters, and then socialise further when dinner arrives.

Join or login to comment.

Thanks for the night! It was nice having a variety of talks, some very specific and "code'ish" and others more general and conversational. I'll be attending again for sure.

Good Evening, do I need to bring my laptop

    October 28, 2014

    • Glen C.

Hey Jabir, tomorrow evening will be mainly presentations, food and socialising, so no need to bring your laptop to this one. You're welcome to come to the next InstallFest, if you want, which is a much more practical build-a-Rails-app-on-your-laptop event. It's on November 27th, and the details for it are also here on Meetup.

Good evening all, looking forward to attending my first meetup event. Anything I should be aware of or bring? Thanks

An open mind and a readiness to chat to strangers are excellent things to bring. Other than that... narp!
