Ruby Pairing (ALL DAY EVENT)

Want to take your Rails skills to the next level? Coming in March, RubyJax will present a Ruby Pairing with Andy and Micah. The day long session will follow along with the pair as they create an application from scratch using the Hashrocket tool chain. Participants will attend a required setup session Friday evening to ensure that their laptops are ready to go for Saturday and get to know the rest of the group. Participation is limited to 10 group members so please only take a spot if you can attend. The event is being co-sponsored by Starfield a local Rails product shop.

Thanks again to all who helped throughout the day and in the organization. The event was of great personal use. Regretfully I had to leave just before the end. See everyone Thursday.

Ditto the other comments! It was great watching the development as it really happens by the pros. The mindset and the process were extremely enlightening. Far beyond any tutorials that you can do on your own. I sincerely appreciate the generosity and the dedication to building up the local programming community. Thanks again.

Micah and Johnny did a great job. Everyone was really helpful and it was a lot of fun. Paul and Taylor were also there for support and Taylor spent most of his time helping me get everything working. I would definitely recommend an event like this to anyone wanting to learn about TDD, pair programming or RoR. Thanks for everything guys.

A frabjous day of learning! It was challenging to the edge of, but not surpassing, overwhelming... just how I enjoy it. Micah and Johnny did an excellent job leading us through the material and answering question. I look forward to any future opportunities to learn in a similar setting.

Thanks to Hashrocket and Starfield for sponsoring yesterday's Ruby Pairing. I especially appreciate the fact that you all took an entire Saturday of your free time to make this happen. A lot of info I took in but it will go a long way with this newbie!!!

Other than having rails setup on my laptop, is there anything else I need to have ready?

What time will the Friday setup be again?

    February 13, 2013

    • Johnny W.

We'll start about 6:30 and go until 8:30ish. You don't have to stay the whole time but if you think you'll need help, I'd come early.

Any way to open up a few more slots? I'd really like to be able to attend.

    • Johnny W.

Slots may open up if someone backs out so I'd stay on the list.

Any chance you can pre-publish the environment requirements ahead of time so those of us with a more technologically-challenged laptop can have more time to prepare? I.e. which versions of Ruby, Rails, gem, rspec, etc... Would be much appreciated!

I think that's a good idea. I know there's at least a few windows users that may need more time. I'll get with Micah & Andy to get a list of gems out.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
