Book Club - Practical Object Oriented Design In Ruby - Ch 1-5

It has been decided! We are going to read Sandi Metz' already classic Practical Object Oriented Design in Ruby (Which I'll refer to as POODIR quite often). It's a wonderful book that personally impacted my development path in a real way. I'm sure we'll all enjoy this one. Since this is a smaller book we're going to cover it in two meetups. It's nine chapters long so we'll cover the first 5 this meetup. If you have any questions about the reading, or want to discuss with me just let me know. :) See ya there!

We read a set number of chapters, for example last time chpt 1 - 5, then discuss at the meeting. Not super formal and there are good discussions as we have a nice range of knowledge.

Jon - curious if you guys have the bandwidth/equipment to do a live streaming session, in regards to Evan's comment below.

Great discussions on POODR, chapter 1 - 5. Apologies to DL and Vic - we tried to meet over at Mushroom but couldn't see you guys.

This is an amazing book. Too bad we can't spend about 4 months going through it because while it's smaller, it's much denser! Chapter 9 deserves a whole meeting in itself. I'll try to collect some of my refactorings that resulted from this book.

I'm good with stretching it four months. :-)

Looking forward to this book and getting my ruby on, as the kids might say.

POODIR.... The jokes will not ever stop!!! Which is a good thing. I look forward to seeing you all there, I expect everyone will bring lots of sample code and from there we shall all debate on pedantic points of code design. Efficiency vs expressiveness is one of my favorite issues to remark on! Whom is with me, if only there was a practical guide.... oh wait time to read.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
