Everyone please be aware there is a brisk wind up on the top of the downs, and it's a couple of degrees colder up there. You need to bring food and extra layers!
It's going to be a low temerature but we're forecast a perfect clear sky and a sunny day though so the views will be amazing, we'll probably catch the paragliders up the top!!!!
This hike goes through the South Downs which is described as the green lungs of the south east as it provides millions of people with access to the beautiful open countryside. The South Downs is the newest national park and is a designated area of outstanding beauty (AOB).
This area is characterised by rolling chalk down land and is regarded as one of the most enriched habitats on earth. It can contain over 40 species of plants per square meter and is the wildlife lover’s dream as we might be lucky enough to catch sight of some of the great wildlife that lives there such as Pheasants, Buzzards, and Red Kite.
This hike begins at Fishersgate we walk out of urbanity and and climb onto the Sussex border path to pass through quintessential countryside. We climb onto Edburton Hill which gives a stunning aerial view of the breathtaking South Downs Way. Somewhere around here we will have a lunch break for sandwiches, it does not look like there is a pub on route so make sure you bring food!. We descend back down, and at the end of the hike, we will stop for a drink and most probably a meal at the local pub.
This is a new route so although we will obviously have all the maps compass etc, we will be working it out as we go along, so you need to be up for exploring! :D
