Workout at Schenley Park - 4/22/2014

First workout of 2014!!!

We're going to ease back into things. All events are done at whatever pace you feel comfortable. The goal is to have a good workout and have fun. We meet at the track.

Here's the agenda:

-Event 1: 800m run
-Event 2: 3 rounds for time
10 burpees
10 lunges (alternating)
10 air squats
400m run
- Event 3: standing broad jump
- Event 4: 2-minutes jump rope (double-unders if able)

In case you're curious, I believe our group records from 2013 were as follows (male/female)...
800m (2:29/3:10)
Broad jump (103"/72")
2-min double unders (120/50)

    Workout Recap 4/22/2014

    What a fun evening! The rain threatened all day but held off during out workout, though it was a bit windy and on the cooler side.

    Good to see so many familiar faces (Jesse, Dave, Clay, Joe and Joe, Travis, and Matt) and welcome new athletes. Group records were set on both the men's and women's 800m tonight. Joe I. bettered his group record by a few seconds to 2:26 while Olivia had an incredible time of 2:50 (first female in our group to break 3:00). It felt good to be running again (the first time in 2014 for many of us), albeit a bit slower... Though the speed will come back.

    We came close to advancing records on the broad jump with Ron at 100" and Olivia at 72".

    On the jump rope event, so many athletes were doing double-unders. It was awesome.

    Shout out to Travis who posted great progress over 2013 numbers including a sub 3:00 800 and 50+ double-unders.

    Thanks to Clay and Cara for helping out. Clay will be running the full marathon in a few weeks and was set for a training run

      Thanks. I have a long way to go in order to get into the physical condition that I'm aiming for, but staying active throughout the entire winter really helped.

    Hey everybody- a few things for tomorrow:

    1. We have a LOT of RSVP's, which is awesome! I'll bring two scoreboards instead of one and a few extra jump ropes. Please be patient with logistics during the workout since we've never had this many people :)

    2. Weather: It's supposed to rain on Tuesday. In the past, we've worked out so long as there isn't thunder and lightning... even in the rain a few times and it ended up still being fun. I will be there at 6:30 to meet any participants regardless of weather conditions. If you decide not to attend, no need to change your RSVP.

    3. What to bring: I'd recommend bringing a water bottle. If you have a favorite jump rope, you could bring that too (though I'll have plenty). You may also want to bring a dry top or jacket to put on after the workout in the event that we have rain.

I loved this group so much though that once I get settled into an apartment and find a place I plan to start my own functional fitness meetup!
