"What? Where? When?" is Encyclopedia of our childhood. Everyone knows about it, everyone remembers.

"What? Where? When?" showed up on the air as an intellectual Russian TV game show, in which a team of six players, called "experts", had to come with the right answer to a question, or to solve a puzzle by brainstorming for just one minute. One point was given to a team of "experts" for the correct answer. In case the team gave a wrong answer, the point was delegated to their opponent from TV audience. The team scoring the first six points was declared a winner of the Game.

The Game was originally created by a journalist and psychologist Vladimir Voroshilov and Natalia Stetsenko.

The Game birthday is September 4, 1975. It started as a family quiz. Only two teams participated - the Ivanov family and the family of the Kuznetsov. However, soon after the author and the showman Vladimir Voroshilov foresaw the potential of the Game and changed the rules substantially. As a result, in 1976, the TV show "What? Where? When?" was called a "Youth intellectual club". The first players were students of the well known Moscow State University (MGU). It is now hard to believe that they were allowed to smoke and loudly discuss questions. Wow!

The rules of the Game have changed many times since. The formal black and white dress code was established. The famous singers and movie stars have been performing during the intermissions, the so called "musical pauses". However, rare books and the statue of Crystal Owl remained unchanged as  Prizes in the Game. But the time change, and in 1991, the program "What? Where? When?" launched the taste of "money-ball" and advertising.

Starting from 1990, the Game has been broadcasting from a Hunting Lodge in Neskuchny Garden in Moscow. The most successful players of "What? Where? When?" obtained popularity and became public figures; for example the Captain of the team Andrey Kozlov,  Alexander Druz, the Master of the Game, the mathematician Maxim Potashev, the journalist and the writer Boris Burda,  many-times winner of the Owl, Alexander Byalko, and others.
