Russian Book Club - Round #2 - Debates Day

Greetings! I am happy to announce a start of our Russian Book Club!

Our first story is "Господин из Сан-Франциско" by Ivan Bunin.

"a short story by a Nobel Prize-winning Russian author Ivan Bunin, written in 1915 and published the same year in Moscow, in the 5th volume of Slovo (Word) anthology. Translated into English by D.H.Lawrence, the story is one of Bunin's best known and regarded as classic" (Wiki)

Time and date for Preparation and Debate Days are a subject of discussion by participants, however the Prep day is expected to be within first two weeks of January.

-----------------THE RUSSIAN BOOK CLUB------------------

Goals:

- Explore Russian culture and History

- Challenge advanced Russian speakers in reading and talking.

Project Description:

A selected story and information resources on it would be posted on our Google drive and announced on Meetup page. Two events would be created: a Preparation Meeting and Debate Day.

• The Preparation Meeting would take place about a month after text announcement. It is expected that by that day most of the reading would be done. We will start the meeting with a presentation about the author and the historical & social background of the time. On the second part we will work on linguistic questions that appeared while reading. Finally, we will discuss the Debate Day - split into teams, identify positions, and receive questions to the text. Answering these questions should give a solid base for a discussion on the Debates.

• The Debate day will start with a quick story summary, then we will proceed to debates.

Time span: two months on average, could be more or less depending on text size.

Good Morning folks! I hope y'all doing well and staying warm.

So here are the questions for the story discussion.

Think about answers to those questions, maybe write some bullet points and to make sure you have the vocabulary to tell about your point of view.
